I gave it a thumbs up. Recently purchased a 2010 civic. I like the video as all I wanted to know was the basic stuff. Where's the drain plug and filter. I really liked the comments. Exactly how to do it right from the folks who commented, so good. Thanks everyone!

You checked the oil level before filling up the oil filter. You should check oil after running, checking for leaks. It will probably need a little more. With a vertical oil filter such as this one I always fill the filter before installing, this provides oil pressure right away so you don't have to wait for oil pressure to build.

According to the manual: You have to warm the engine first , then drain, install bolt with new washer and tighten to 29 ft pounds, remove filter, check that the o ring is not on the pan, clean the mating surface of the filter, then put new oil on the o ring, and hand tighten the filter until the o ring sits on the seat. then do 3/4 turn then tighten to 8.7 ft pounds, then put the new oil 3.9 us quarts with the filter and 3.7 us quarts with out filter. keep the car lifted and turn it on for at least 3 min, then check for leaks. then turn the car off. to reset the maitenence light: turn igntion to on (2) press and release the select/reset buton after 10 seconds. the display will flash then press for another 5 seconds and the display will say 100% oil life

I was surprised they didn't include the maintenance reminder reset. It's in the manual, but would be much faster to watch on this A1 video.

Just did it today with help from a friend who’s done it to his own cars . We lifted the civic from two sides using two jacks, and were able to get on our backs under the car; to be able to screw the filter off by hand and use a wrench for the oil pan. Took us about 45min more or less. Good luck! My civic is non Si so owners manual said 3.9 quarts as the civic in the video. Check the manual for your car. I believe for Si models it said 4. Something I think 4.5 quarts.

Good video, but... Before draining oil, loosen but do not completely remove fill cap. This prevents vacuum while reduces chances of debris entering the engine. Use a new washer when putting the drain bolt back in. Torque drain bolt to 29lb-ft. Fill new filter with clean oil before putting it on. Thread on new filter by hand, 3/4 turn after contact. ALSO, since most of us can't justify investing in a TPO lift... If you haven't already, invest in some chocks, jack stands, and a 3-ton floor jack. Locate the pinch welds behind the front wheel wells and in front of the rear wheel wells. These are where the jack stands will support the car. Locate the front jack point on the middle of the cross beam of the frame. It's marked by an arrow stamped into the plastic. Or if you only need to jack one side of the front, either of the front tow loops will work as jack points. The rear tow loop is the rear jack point. Make sure the car is on solid pavement. Set the park brake and chock the back wheels, because when it comes to safety 2=1=0. Set jack stands at each wheel. Jack up the front and set the front stands under the pinch welds. Jack up the back and set the rear stands at height equal to the front. NEVER get under a vehicle supported only by a jack. ALWAYS use jack stands. Unless of course you're insured and will leave your widow a nice settlement.

Yes to everything buuuuuut you don't need to prefill the filter, that's just a common myth. Some companies actually specifically advise against prefilling so it's better to just not do it and let the car do it by itself.

Awesome video.. Do I have to change the o-ring of the bolt drain each time I change the oil?
@brancewoodson69763 жыл бұрын
Yeah you should. The aluminum crushed to create a seal between the bolt and pan. Honda dealerships sell them for like $0.43 each, or I think there’s a 20 pack for like $8 on Amazon

It’s still fine id rather do Oil filter before doing oil drain plug because it prevents you getting oil on the oil filter and not getting oil on the oil filter because it’ll make it slip and hard to get off

What oil brand is better for an Honda civic 8th gen? I just bought Quaker State Racing 10w30 (my manual recommend 10w30) (has the API seal). But if you say "don't use QS, use xxx brand. I'll be buy it.

Hugo Roberto Soler G… I have a ‘16 Honda Civic. It uses a 0W - 20 oil, but I have used the Quaker State Ultimate Durability full synthetic oil for 7K mile oci. Sent a sample off to Blackstone Labs - the report came back saying the oil held up well, low wear metals, and enough additive package remaining to run it out to 10K miles (I do 90%+ hwy miles). The Quaker State is a good oil!

@@ja4182 better late than never, but for anyone reading this in the future you can wrap ductape around the filter and use that as leverage to get it off.
