About to do the front brakes on my son’s Mazda 6 and I wanted to make sure there isn’t anything unusual about the setup or special tools needed. Your video told me everything I needed to know. Thank you!

No there wasn't anything crazy that needed to me done on the brakes on this car. If you follow the video you should be fine. Remember to check the brake fluid level in the reservoir and to pump the brakes when you are finished BEFORE you start the car. You want to make sure you have a nice firm brake pedal before taking off. Hope this helps you out.

I just replaced all brakes and rotors on my 2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring and this was very helpful. I will say that I tried both methods when collapsing the calipers, and the $25 tool from Advanced Auto parts was MUCH easier then the process you followed. Great video and thanks again.

Thanks for the video. I am going to replace my front brakes on my Mazda 6 2014. I have found the torque specs - the two smaller bolts have 30 to 39 Nm and the two biggers have 92 to 110 Nm in the workshop manual.

Other than brake hardware replacement. Is there something one should do with brake padel in between each wheel brakes? Also, is there any steps to follow after brakes are done replacing? As in... pump the brake padels? or wait a bit to do so? or whatever else steps before first drive and during first drive? Thanks.
@HomeOwnerRepair

When you are done replacing the brakes on both sides, pump the brakes before starting the car to get the brake pedal firm again. Hope this helps you out.

Hello: I wonder, is it necessary to change the discs too? Thank you.
@HomeOwnerRepair

It depends on their condition. If they have like 40,000-50,000 miles on them they may need to be replaced during your next brake job.

Is it ok if I use anti seize on threaded bolts and caliper grease on all the other lubed parts?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 3 жыл бұрын
We typically use anti seize on the bolts and caliper grease on the brake caliper pins so that the brake glide easier and function properly.

The dealer can run the VIN # and get the correct ones. Your local auto parts store should be able to get the right ones for you.

Can you explain why you greased the outside of the new brake hardware, the side that touches the caliper when slotting it in ? I understand it’s metal to metal but it’s not moving … right ?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 2 жыл бұрын
It helps to prevent the brake pad from squeaking.

i changed my brake pads , it seems I have to press the pedal further for the brakes to engage. Do I need to bleed the lines or something?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 3 жыл бұрын
It may not hurt to bleed the brakes, If they are just a little more soft than they were it could be due to the fact that everything has been lubricated properly and is no longer frozen in place.

Is it recommended to change rotors-discs with pads? , i have only 35k miles why should i change rotors?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 3 жыл бұрын
If the rotors are OE rotors inspect them to see if they are in good shape and have enough material left. If they are deemed safe to use you should be able to pad slap them.

I replaced both front rotors and pads. Front left keeps grinding now. What’s going on? I greased pins, used brake quiet spray on pads.
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair Жыл бұрын
They shouldn't grind. You may want to take the tire off and turn the brake rotor by hand to see if you can tell where the noise is coming from. Check the brake dust shield (backing plate) to see if it is hitting the brake rotor.

No love for the caliper bracket. A wire brush doesn't cut it. This is the most common mistake made while doing a brake job. I have had to retrain technicians who had been doing brake jobs for decades. You should be putting your grease on bare metal, not polished rust. A brake pad will never fight you if you do this every time.
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 2 ай бұрын
Depending on the severity of the rust we usually file them AND wire brush them.
