I'm a mechanic, please let me help you. I know this post is four years old but I ask you, please update it, the information you're providing is partly incorrect. It is important to know that there are two types of 75W90 synthetic gear oil, GL-4 & GL-5. Toyota recommends using 75W90 GL-4 in their manual transmission and part-time 4wd transfer case. The chemicals in GL-4 are designed to be safe for yellow metals, like bronze, which are inside their manual transmission and part-time 4WD transfer case. GL-5 is not designed for yellow metals and it will in fact slowly damage such metals like bronze. The chemicals in GL-5 will turn yellow metals black and cause them to fail prematurely. Toyota recommends 80W90 GL-5 or 75W90 GL-5 (long service life) to be used in the front and rear differential. For their full-time or AWD transfer case. Toyota recommends using 75W90 GL-5. Their full-time transfer case does not contain bronze components. Please verify my information, its all true. The same information can also be verified inside the vehicle owners manual.

Good tip on breaking fill plugs free first. You can improve it by not removing the fill plug completely before removing drain plug first, that to avoid dumping all the fluid right away and making more mess than necessary. Remove fill plug completely once drain plug is off and flow rate have decreased.

New FJ owner and being honest (not mechanically inclined) but just wanting to learn how to do these maintenance items myself. This video as well as a few others have made me feel as if I can tackle it. Just wanted to say Thanks!!

never let quick oil change places do your diffs or oil or anything. They will overtighten everything and then when you go to take it off you will strip out the alan drain plugs like butter.

Can you help me out with the oil types and quantities for each differential please
@genehart261Ай бұрын
24mm and 15/16" are almost exactly the same. Rear diff uses steel plugs, torque to 36 ft. lbs. front diff. plugs are 10mm. hex. ALWAYS use new seals/gaskets.

How often should you be changing these fluids out. I have a 2012 FJ and haven't used the 4WD but maybe half a dozen times...
@toujames4 жыл бұрын
Shalimar Serrano I have an 07 FJ cruiser and my mechanic recommends a change to every 30k miles. Or whenever the oil is all black like mine was when he recommended it.
@ppal644 жыл бұрын
You need to zoom out. Show where they are in relation to the vehicle. And show in detail your oils. The transfer case oil is usually different to the front and rear diff oil and generally not required to be changed that frequently.

What if I don’t have a 4x4 FJ should I still change after 30k miles??

Looks like the underneath needs some fresh paint! Nothing drives me more crazy then people who don’t take care of the underneath. Super easy, just some black paint. Use a wire wheel on a drill to clean it up.

On the “List of tool used” the links it’s not the same as you use in the video. ratchet, torque wrench, Allen sockets and drip tray are different 🤔

That doesn’t happen to be a silver 2007 FJ does it? Cause it looks like the underside of the one I just bought AND it has the same ratchet strap on the gas tank. I think I bought THAT fj cruiser LOL
@enzo12340693 жыл бұрын
Went back to the beginning and that one is black. Interesting that the underside rust is damn near identical and the ratchet strap is the damn same LOL
