Just replaced mine. Easy job, just make sure you have a good breaker bar and a good torque wrench. My driver’s side spring had given up and driving was unsafe. Car ride is now 100% better, just a little firmer than with OEM parts, but solved my problem. Shop wanted 1,100 dollars for the job. I paid under 170 for the parts and 30 minutes of my time

Thank you for this tutorial. We just did this a few days ago and it wasn't too difficult. VERY IMPORTANT TIP: Jack up both sides of the front of the car and it will give you maximum clearance to remove the old and put in the new strut. It took us nearly 1.5 hours to get the first one but once we figured out that we had to jack up the front, the next one took only 15 mins.

I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but I discovered you could rotate the the strut to align the lower bolts after you secure it in to the top portion of the job. Thanks for this very good quality video. Did the front brakes on my Civic today and noticed the boots on the struts were torn quite badly on both sides. (77,000 km.) Seems they are not very sturdy. Wouldn't this cause premature failure due to dirt entering the mechanism ? Are there better quality replacement boots available?
@1AAuto6 жыл бұрын
+Stan Coleshill Thanks for watching! The boot is what prevents dirt and debris from getting into the strut, so if it is torn up pretty good then yes it can cause failure. Really like your entire series of videos- have used many many many to fix replace parts on my 06 Civic with almost 290k miles! 1 question- how come you never apply an anti-seize product to help with future disassembly? Here in the rust belt (OH) I slather it on and still break bolts a year later!!
@yourfinaldecree4 жыл бұрын
I have an 06 Civic coupe MT, bought it off the lot in December 2005, also in Ohio, also with high miles nearing 275k. I use anti-seize and thread lock on everything that won't negatively affect torque values (and some that might taking great care to be within +/- 5% factory spec). I always start to treat bolts and nuts for an upcoming repair or part swap with PB blaster a week before on a daily basis. Haven't needed anything more than a breaker bar for a single thing in nearly 15 years working in it! This includes big chassis bolts for suspension work, exhaust, and many of the tight subframe bolts.

@@1AAuto I felt the need to augment my posted comment... The process of a week's worth of daily to multiple times daily treatment with penetrating oil/rust penetrant has worked for every single bolt in my car SANS THE LOWER REAR SHOCK BOLTS THAT SERIOUSLY POOP THE BED. I guess after having swapped out over $1650 in parts, including the complete front suspension inclusive (both sides for everything before and after), front pads and rotors, outer+inner tie rod ends, replaced boots on rack and inner tie rod end to rack interface area, rear hub and bearing, complete rear drum brakes replacement including all the hardware and shoes, special rust resistant drums, rear shocks (hatehatehatehate), upstream and downstream O2 (just upstream needed replaced, but downstream was only a little more to get both on sale so why not, NGK laser iridium plugs. I did all of this myself, and the most complex thing I had ever done to a/my car before this episode was an exhaust and cold air intake many, many years ago. The videos helped along with a Chilton and the other one I have. Of I got stuck, seeing it done to the actual parts in real time was a great asset, but trying to figure it out first is the best way to learn your car, to learn why a part is the way it is!

They really aren't expensive, even for quality, and this is especially the case considering the entire assembly doesn't require anything else to install. (Although I usually grab new m14x1.5 57mm flange bolts and lock nuts for the attachment locations to the knuckle. The addition of some cam bolts to allow your alignment shop to adjust camber if necessary is also a sub-$20 option.) I'm a fan of Gabriel and Monroe personally, but a friend bought a set from 1aauto, forget the brand, and they appeared to be quality parts and fit as well as the more expensive gabriels I had just installed and possessed a ride that was only very slightly less quiet than my own.
