You're not supposed to remove that entire stud from the engine, just the nut. That's why the threads got jacked up. The engine was not lifted enough and the weight pulled it down damaging the threads.

Hi , just curious why you replaced all your motor mounts? Was your car interior vibrating while at idle in drive or reverse? Thats what mine is doing but not sure what the problem is. My engine rpms is very steady while in drive or reverse at idle. Would replacing engine mounts help?
@jaimesoncortez2 жыл бұрын
@@davejohnson6144 probably. It was a very common problem with 8th gen civics. (Do a quick Google search.) My 2008 sedan is vibrating at low RPM’s and when cold, so I’m replacing the two front engine mounts first (visible damage to the rubber) and then seeing how it runs before I change out anything else.

Thankyou. I just completed this repair on my car. Saved me some cash. One thing I did that helped me was removing the wiper fluid tube. It is just a little clip and then pull it out. Made a little more room to work in.
@johnhoog82795 жыл бұрын
Replaced the passenger side mount and torque strut. Put enough lift on the engine, he messed up the threads because the engine wasn't lifted enough, just watch for engine movement when removing the bolt and nut. Remove the AC line bracket if you can or you will unnecessarily stress the AC line. Also remove the bolt that attaches the top mount bracket to the side of the engine bay it will give you the room to remove the mount. His nut was corroded in place, mine came right off. The top portion of my mount had separated causing bad vibration when backing up, and when maintaining speed or slowing down. Couldn't be seen until removal. Engine feels as smooth as silk now, do what I did - buy the whole set from them and replace both mounts and torque rods. Average time to replace each area 2 hours, glad I don't have his corrosion problems.

@EATSLEEPJD4 жыл бұрын
Tip for anyone doing this. I did this exactly a year ago. 1 year later the mount went bad again with excessive vibrations. 1A Auto offers lifetime warranty on these mounts so they replaced it. This time around I went ahead and did the transmission mount along with the engine mount. I suggest you do this because if the tranny mount is bad also this could end up ruining the engine mount. They are installed parallel. The small torque link in the bottom was also replaced.

@johnjoseph73825 жыл бұрын
no, it's definitely captured
@johnjoseph73825 жыл бұрын
it has a little room to move around, it's best to have the car on level ground when doing this job, if you are on a sloped driveway the engine will tilt back and make this job really hard
@shadiestone29495 жыл бұрын
This is a bit older but in case others are curious later. The nut does come off. He meant captured as the bolt can't be removed from the top as it gets stopped, even with the nut off. If you pull from below, without the nut there, it can be removed. The reason he kept the that piece on during all of it was because of the amount of rust the portion above the nut had.

The replacement motor mount that was installed seems to be for the coupes. Do you sell any for the sedans? The mounts for the sedan has pointed edges where the two bracket/brace bolts mount, as opposed to the curved edge for the coupes

I have NO idea why mine was extremely difficult to replace the mount. The aluminum bracket, after loosening the bolts to be able to move it around would NOT center with the holes in the mount and I basically had to force them into the holes to align everything. Then, putting the top bracket on that goes on the mount itself was also extremely difficult, I had to constantly lift and lower the engine to get the holes to line up there and even then I feel like I had to force the bolts into the holes, worried I cross threaded them. You guys made it look so easy lol but very informative and helpful video regardless, just sucks my experience doing it was horrible.

*A gentle suggestion: To ensure correct and repeatable torque spec and corresponding bolt stretch, before you assemble and particularly when you thread steel into aluminum, apply thin coating of appropriate fastener assembly lubricant (anti-seize) on male threads, under bolt heads, into blind-hole female threads and under nut faces. Use foam-tipped swabs to avoid "Q-tip-fuzz" contamination. Cheers!*

I need to do this job myself so the video is helpful to me. You said tap is 14 mm by 1.5? I have air and air impact for 1/2 inch drive but lack the big breaker bar that you used. I assume the air impact will do the job okay? In my research for this generation of Honda Civics I note that many people complain about rough idle and pay for fuel injection services and new spark plugs services (myself included) only to find that the engine mounts need replacement as well. I assume no harm in having the fuel injection and spark plug services done but I suspect most often it is the engine mounts that need replacements. I would love to see more details about how the mounts fail because in this video the old mounts and the new mounts I did not see any way to see the failures. Please advise.
