Concise, informative at right to the point. Thank you for teaching the correct and safe method of changing out the rollers. I bought high quality sealed ball bearing nylon rollers to make my door quieter. Also applied a bit of white lithium grease to each roller axle prior to installation. (Oil runs all over and attracts dirt.) It is also a good idea to use the spray lithium grease on the rest of the door hinges and torsion springs.

Wow! This woman is amazing. I know my rollers are going. Just realized the bearings had seized and I used brake cleaner to clean them. No more wobbling of the garage door but rollers do need replacing. This should hold for a couple months. I hate garage doors, they scare the hell out of me. I have a double door with no electric eye so I am always in a panic when I use it. Thank you so very much. She knows her sh*t.

I love your videos! Liked and subscribed naturally. I'm watching a video of yours on dripping water valves; valve stem, which is round and is also my main water line valve. I put in new garage door around 12 years ago. I just installed a new garage door opener that is a Genie belt drive. Talk about quiet! You literally can't hear it!!! At the same time, I put on new garage door rollers. If I had to do it over again, I would have put the new rollers on right away as the ones that come with new garage doors are typically cheap. I used ultra quiet 2" nylon rollers with 13 ball bearings. Lowe's wanted like $8.99 for a pair so 10 would be 5 times that. I got a 10-pack of them from Amazon for $10.99 instead of paying $45 for 10 at Lowe's. Great information, concise, and to the point in regards to all your videos! For one who does DIY, your hands look so soft! No offense intended.

Hey Greg, thanks for sharing the info about your garage door replacement. I agree, the rollers that came with my door were the non ball bearing type and I upgraded them. I didn't think to mention it in the video, hopefully folks will read the comments and take note.. I try to treat my hands carefully. They need to hold up for a life time. lol. I use a lot of hand lotion.

Hi Kim, thank you for taking the time to comment and for the suggestion. I do my best to make quality videos. I do consider any suggestions made by viewers. The top brackets vary from door to door. The video was made presuming that the brackets were properly adjusted. I try to stay on topic of the title (adjusting the top rollers could be a topic for a new video), if I don't do that people tend to get testy if I go a tangent. Again, thanks for commenting.

For sure bending the track is the fastest method. Bending metal will cause it to fatigue. I wouldn't recommend bending the track too many times.

May work for some. Not my first choice though. Unbolting hinges can strip them out and also misalign the spacing of the panels. Just my thoughts. Not for everyone.

I still like the track-bend method, as long as some guy named "Hercules" isn't doing it, lol. I just get nervous messing with many door bolts because they are often very easy to strip out. Although, there is also the point that those bolts often need to be tightened periodically anyway due to vibration loosening them up over time. I can see a cable replacement video is coming soon, also. ;)
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting, you are right, there is a cable replacement video, lol. I also just replaced the door, a family member couldn't wait for the door to go up all the way before backing out of the garage. Maybe I need a high speed opener! The new track was really flimsy compared to the 30 year old track.... sigh... it's so hard to buy something that isn't cheaply made. I think I might be scared to bend the new one. You can cheat and clamp the lift cable to the track while replacing the bottom rollers instead of disconnecting the spring, but you are putting a lot of faith in the clamp.

+Know How Now I actually did see one garage door guy use a cable grip/cable grab/some people call them "comealongs" to get slack in the cable to do work. They look like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnuwqYico8-tfNE But that's getting a little fancy and probably only worth the trouble on commercial doors. And there is still the chance it could slip.
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 6 жыл бұрын
You can clamp the cable to the track with a pair of vice grips and then remove the bottom roller. I don't think it is the safest practice, you would be putting a lot of faith in those vice grips..... better to be safe and keep all your fingers.
@l337pwnage
@l337pwnage 6 жыл бұрын
+Know How Now Your fingers would probably survive, but I do know a guy who lost an eye removing that bracket without securing that cable. He tried working on it at night and wasn't familiar with the dangers.

I recently installed a new garage door. Apparently, I need a faster opener because a family member couldn't wait for the door to fully open and bent the bottom panel. lol! Since I have new door, I don't have a need for a new seal. I do have a couple of suggestions. If the garage floor is not level or it has an uneven surface, look for an thicker gasket. Also, if you have an opener, you can try to adjust the up/down range to make the door/floor gap tighter. There's always the cat option too! lol.

Mice and snakes, lol! You could keep the snakes for mouse control, though they are likely just hibernating in the winter when the mice want a nice warm home inside your garage. lol! Yep, almost all of the videos are repairs as needed, as any home owner knows, there is always something that needs attention. I am particular about quality of work and have had hired pro's do shoddy, sloppy work (and I have to fix their work and pay them) or a few really bad ones try to rip me off because they assume I don't know anything. No offense to any honest, fair pros, they are out there. I have friends who are in the trades and they are good people.

This procedure only applies to your door. For example, even with the door open on my very conventional door, the brackets still have the same tension on them. If someone isn't very diligent about reading the description, removing the lower bracket could be deadly.

Thank you for your video. My garage door is almost 25 yrs old. It makes a lot of noise when opening, should I replace all the rollers with plastic rollers?
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 6 жыл бұрын
If the pulley's have not be replaced, they could make noise too. They have bearings in them that eventually fail, sometimes the pulley will split too. The pulley at the top of the door has the most stress on it and should fail first (if you have extension springs). I would be inclined to replace all the rollers not just those that appear to look bad. It's hard to say how long the rollers, springs, cables and pulleys will last. It depends on if the door was installed correctly, the weight of the door, the quality of the parts and how often the door gets used. I do have videos to that show how the replace the cables, pulleys and springs. They are in a playlist on the channel's home page. Click on the channel name to find them.

@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 5 жыл бұрын
I would hesitate to oil the rollers. If they are the bearing type they have grease in them. Oil attracts dirt, you may end up having the dirt grind things up (non bearing type rollers), you could spray that type with silicone spray. I use silicone on my hinges.

Replace all the other rollers by removing hinges. The bottom ones simply bend thw bottom part of track with pliers just enough to get the ole wheel out and put new one in. Dont need to mutilate the track and bend it back. You dont have to mess with the spring at all and no one gonna be looking at your rail like it was bent...who cares. 100% of people wont notice only you....

NO ratchet needed; just understand your power drill. Number of bearings does NOT denote a better roller. An 8 roller in a good cage will be better than a 13 roller. I would never recommend pulling the bottom bracket to anyone on the internet. Too big of a chance for something to happen and get injured. For a person who does this every seven to ten years, just do a small bend in the outside of a track and pull out the bottom roller. If that clamp on the other side gives way, it will be interesting. And remember, if it does....attorneys are always ready to solve the next question...who owns this video. The track does not have to be bent that far out and easy to bend back.

If your garage door repair company came to my house to repair my garage door, bent the track and wanted to charge me for it you would have a fight. You do understand that bending metal back and forth weakens it? Imagine if a track fails, your business might find itself with a lawsuit on its hands.
