Thanks for this video. I did mine last week without problems (120hp). I bought a long t bar wrench on your advice and I could not have completed the job without it. The hardest part was getting the connectors back on to the plugs afterwards.
@caithimhjoe21355 жыл бұрын
Yes thank you sir! Like you said, the connectors are what is worrying me. The directions for gettin them off is very clear.( A coat hanger wire., but if they are that awkward to take off then,....i thought....These will be a nightmare to get back on!

Very good as usual.Couple of tips, get the engine hot first they come out easily. Use a piece of 8mm steel rod or tube with an old rubber hose on the end with 6mm hole, grabs the plugs as you push it on and then they lift out easily. You can use the same tool to replace.

I just wanted to check the resistance of them, but when I saw the amount of work, I think I will order new ones and just change them :)) Good opportunity to clean EGR and air valve.

I have 4 glow plugs (with vacuum) in the oil, although in an 8v engine. What could be the reason?
@ringhster62354 жыл бұрын
can you tell me how long the spark plugs are? I searched on the net for z19dt 8v and it shows me two models, one of 25mm and another of 30.
@fixanddrive4 жыл бұрын
I guess both of them fit. As I know, the first models had the shorter ones and then they fitted longer ones. And the longer ones also fit to the first engines, because the engines are the same.

Hi, is it possible that one of the glow plugs leaks some oil? I have a minor leakage and it looks as if it is coming from the glow plug and oozes down the engine block. I do hope this leakage is not from the head gasket...

The glow plugs won’t shear as long as you have a guitarist and xylophone player to play, like in this video

I don’t know you if still reply to comments or not but I’m about to attempt this job on that engine , some of the space to work on these cars is some of the worst I’ve ever come across. I’ve worked on Audi’s , fords , Vw , etc never had issues like these what a stupid design. I’ve changed glow plugs on a ford in 15 minuets this looks like 15 hours 🤬

@123Sander12316 жыл бұрын
Im sorry but this is not at all how you remove glowplugs and I would not recommend following the advice of this video if you do not want to run the risk of sheering your glowplugs. Tools like a T-wrench are absolutely not the correct tools for removing glowplugs. You remove glowplugs with a torque-wrench when the engine is hot, sheer-force for NGK glowplugs is 40nm and for non-NGK plugs is 35nm... In case they don't come loose at 35nm use some fully synthetic oil (like 5W30 or whatever) and apply to the socket of the glowplug, drive a week and try again, keep applying this trick untill the glowplug lets go at a maximum of 35nm. Applying more force will sheer the glowplug potentially damaging the glowplug or the socket. Use only NGK Y534J #3413 as these are OE-fitted to this engine. If anything other than an NGK plug comes from this engine it was an aftermarket plug.

a kid would be able to loosen factory fitted glow plugs
@123Sander12316 жыл бұрын
Fix and Drive if you would just stick to NGK for this car it wouln’t matter if factory fitted or not. Glowplugs in these are are also used for afterglow and have an estimated life of around 200.000km, replace at 150 when you chance the cambelt. For cambelt fit you need to lift the engine a bit making glowplugs easily accesible..

Tried to do the same job on my friends car today. Got 2 plugs out easy. One snapped and the last one would't move at all. Awful design. Steel plugs in aluminum cylinder head is a really bad idea.

Nearly all cars are like this these days. Cars are generally a pain in the arse to work on these days, sometimes for the (assumably) simple jobs. Where the same job on a car 30 odd years ago would take 5 to 10 mins, now can take hours. Things were so much easier 30 years ago when I first started as a trainee mechanic/fitter. It often makes me wonder if the manufacturers design things in such a way, that labour charges on say a 10/12 year old vehicle, get so expensive at the main dealer, when things start going wrong with age, the main dealers can always offer the customer finance on the monthly, and sell them a new car. Cars aren't designed to last in these modern times. I have seen 10 year old Cars gone for scrap or salvage, just because something like an automatic gearbox, is either too expensive to repair, absolutely an astronomical price for a new one, or even second hand ones are as scarce as hens teeth, and also too expensive to buy. We live in a throw away society these days, where it is so easy (and at first seemingly affordable) to get finance on something new, than it is to repair the vehicle you have. I am sure this is the tactics of most modern car manufacturers. I am beggining to loath working on Cars, and wish I could go back in time and take a different career path, but having been doing the job for 30+ years I don't really have a lot of choice. There is a young lad just started as an apprentice where i work. (Working 5 days a week at the moment) He is only 16, and is going to be part time going to college and working partly in the garage were I work. I hate to burst his bubble, but I do keep trying to put him off working on Cars, and mildly encouraging, or atleast trying to get him to realise, there are certainly other, easier, less stressful options out there for a young man to take. Also (i know he is only young) but I really don't think he will get far with his patience and attitude towards working on modern cars, (it is hard and stressful). He has only just started, but he gives up to easy, and he is always "i cant! Do it." As Yoda once said, "Do or do not, there is no try!" 😂
