Hope you find the video useful. This video is to help people wondering how to go about replacing their grommets and what tools that are needed.
I am a Master Racquet Technician Certified through the United States Racquet Stringers Association (USRSA). I love stringing and own a lot of tennis products and want to share that passion.

I wanted to share that I have tried several strategies for grommet/bumper guard replacements.....but your technique of using the table to align and roll the grommets into place worked like a charm! Thank you for sharing

If you go for usrsa stringing certification can you bring a racquet that is so easy to put the grommets in? I have done some in five minutes and some in an hour with a heat gun and grommet grinders etc.

Hey imateapot51, The simple answer is yes! However the more complex on is that they have a set of rules pertaining to what racquet you can bring but it is usually only pertaining to how old the frame you bring in is. So as long as it’s within the last 3 years you should be fine, but always check with your tester before hand to make sure. Happy Testing!

You will likely have to gently heat the flared grommets a bit so you can mold them back into shape so they fit back into their respective holes. Grommet kits are so cheap, I would just buy a new kit from a place like Tennis Warehouse. They are less than $10 and should be available unless you have a REALLY old frame.

Hey David, actually there is a good method that I created awhile back so I could do some different customization work. I will make a video about it as soon as I can, however I am in the middle of a move so expect a decent amount of days before I get settled.

Do the grommets have to be for that racquet?
@racquetology
@racquetology 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you have to order the grommet set that will fit your racquet. There are sometimes grommets from older racquets that will have the same mold as newer ones but unless you know about those that “retrofit” I would just stick to the exact same grommet strip

I'm a beginner. plz understand my dumb question. Why we should change the grommets?
@racquetology
@racquetology 3 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all. We replace grommets and head guards when they get old or worn down. When they get old they can get cracks around certain grommet holes (especially those with harsh angles) and begin to wear till the soft grommet covering is no more, which means the string might scrape against the graphite enough to snap the string on a racquet. The other is because the head guard gets so worn down that the top of a tennis racquet is left without protection. If you continue to play and scrape the top of the frame on the court it can shave off layers of the graphite and create weak points and fractures. Hope this Helps 👍

Nice video! After replacing grommets, is relevant to make a no weaving stringing for settle them down or it doesn’t make a significant difference? Thanks!!!

I don’t understand the question is there perhaps a different way you can phrase it?
@pesafaria
@pesafaria 3 жыл бұрын
@@racquetology sure, no problem! I oftenly see some pro stringers, right after replacing grommets, doing a string job in wich they don’t weave the crosses thru the mains (they only tension the crosses all above the mains with no weave). Because this process would help setting the new grommets to the frame. After sometime, they cut this string job off, and finally make the regular string method weaving the crosses. My doubt is, if this process really make any difference?

Ok now I understand, I personally have never done that method and don’t see how that would work. Some grommets have a easier time slipping out of the frame during stringing. I typically hold down grommets with my fingers on tough angle pulls which can try to pull out new grommet strips, but it would still try to pull the grommet strip out with no weaves on crosses so it wouldn’t be useful. Where did you see this method by the way?

Ok I saw the post I believe that he is doing it for added security when stringing the frame quickly for the next day. He does also point out in his response that it is a technique that isn’t used very often at all. Still very interesting, thanks for pointing that out.
