Didn't need a single tool to change the headlight bulbs on both sides. Seeing the whole unit out made it easy. It took 5 minutes to do both. Thanks for the video.

And because of this comment here, I tried removing the bulb before taking my entire front end off. So thank you sir. Only trouble I had was on the large rubber seal that goes over the whole assembly at the back of the unit (last piece to reassemble). After a few minutes of work, got it back on with a few scratches on the hands as proof of the work lol.

You do not need to do so much work or remove the air-box from the driver side fender to get to the bolts. Just loosen and move the wheel well shrouds and go in from there. Much easier. All you need to do is remove the two fender screws closest to the tire, then pull the fender down and out far enough to reach the headlight bolt. Leave the splash-guard shroud underneath in place too, only take out the screws in the wheel well/fender area. Quarter inch ratchet drive set will get them all, and the fasteners are simple.

Seriously, Before you go through all that bumper removal, just try wiggling them after removing the top two bolts. I had mine changed in less than twenty minutes without taking all that off. The new lights just slip right in over the dreaded third bolt. Try it first. You can always keep disassembling if necessary.

This video is a lifesaver for those of us needing to change out discolored headlamps on our Focus...It is sad that auto manufacturers are allowed to use plastic in these items,which they KNOW are going to discolor a few years down the road...even worse is the fact that one has to practically dis-assemble the entire front end of the car to replace them due to the placement of ONE bolt on each headlamp...

The first minute and a half alone make this video worth the while. Thank you so much! There are forums dedicated to how difficult it is to simply replace the headlight bulb due to the difficult positioning. Your visual with the whole unit removed from the car made it SO much easier to work on mine and understand that there is a ring to remove. The owner's manual is extremely unclear. This went from a frustrating thing that I was resigned to take to a shop to a minor fix that took 2 minutes. Again, THANK YOU!

Finally found a video that shows the real focus with all parts attached. All others, show pulling out the headlight with no problem, well big problem if you don't know those screws are under the fender when putting it back in. All others only showed taking off the grill or even not taking off the grill. Oh well, too late tonight to finish, but tomorrow I will do it the right way to put them back in. Great Video!

Followed video step by step and replaced headlight assembly with new ones from 1AAuto. Great price and car looks fabulous with the new lights. Of course the job takes a whole lot longer, especially with that air intake in the way, but nonetheless it is very rewarding to have the task complete. It was a good time with my son and we didn’t even have any spare bolts left over. Yeah for us.

On the 2007 I only had to remove the two top 10mm bolts to remove the assembly. You have to wiggle it around to get it in though.

Engineers spend significant amounts of time making sure that everything fits. There is a ton of stuff that goes into modern cars, and compact cars are even harder to fit everything in to. I had a 2000 Camry (mid-size), which everything (except for the vacuum switching valve) was fairly easy to get to, now I own a 2007 Focus, and it's much harder, and you have to remove a lot more.

All of this work is for one bolt take the others out and pull hard that headlight will come out you dont need that hidden bolt no flat rate guy would do this way

You DONT have to take the bumper off and the whole air box out, once you take the bolts and fasteners off the fender liner and get it out of the way you can get the bolt out with a closed end wrench. Not a whole lot of room but saves you probably an hour and a half. I did one side in probably 15 minutes

You don't have to take the front bumper off take the grill out then two bolts on top of headlight. Then there is a bolt on side fender just eliminate the one on the side to me it's extra you have 4 points to hold the light in . I did it over the weekend took about 25 or 30 minutes.

Should have worded the title better, as too many people are assuming all this work is just to replace the bulbs, and not the entire housing assemblies. That being said, I dont think i had to remove the bumper. It has been a while, but i think i just accessed the bolts from the wheel well.

Just unscrew the two bolts holding the headlight then yank it out. Did it right now to replace the socket.

All this work to change 2 Headlight bulbs? Just reach behind the headlight assembly pull off the rubber cover, twist the plastic ring counter clock wise, pull out the old bulb and put in the new one, done in 5 minutes.

I never changed a headlight bulb in my life, always had my brother do it. But last time I needed a bulb changed he said all these tools were required, so I brought it to the garage. Paid $30 for a bulb but they put it in free... I watched and he just popped it out and a new one in.... I left and later realized the bulb was in crooked and was blocking light... So, today I opened the hood, stuck my hand in there and felt around till I figured out how it works, popped the light out and put it back in straight. I don't understand what the problem was in changing a simple bulb. This video is too much, with taking the whole front end of the car apart. If I had to do all this then I'd pay the garage to do it.

No need to take the bumper off or the six bolts holding it on.....take the underside front bumper skirt off....(I can't believe these guys worked by pulling it back) sorry guys...grill off....left spot / fog light out if you have one.....the complete air intake box / housing off ..(I pulled all three pieces that way you know it put back together correctly) ...you can access the single left headlight bolt with a flat wrench after doing this.......if I did it again I would take the left front wheel off and the left fender skirt to be able to access the intake snorkel as it came loose during the process and needed to be put back on.....the snorkel rubber mount is clipped into the snorkel and when I pulled the air box off it popped off...the intake snorkel is directly above the left inside fender skirt.the right headlight should be the same ..only easier as there is no air box on that side.....I didn't take it off but that single bolt should be accessible with the front bumper skirt off ......no real shortcuts here....poor design.

Absolutely not. If you are slim like me simply turn the wheel to the right and pull the under cover away and side cover out. Use your ratchet plus extension to remove the drive side bumper bolts. And mine didn’t use 7mm but 9/32. Hope this helps but you do not need to even touch the air box. I recommend doing the passenger side first so you know exactly where the 10mm bolts will be.

I just want to thank FORD for making DIY projects so difficult. It is clear that they only want to get these puppies assembled quickly, and don't care that someone may have to pay a dealer an outrageous price for a job that should be fast and easy. Oh wait, that is part of the plan isn't it. Soon they will have us pulling the engine just to replace a headlamp. Ford is just another ripoff company following Chrysler when who started their 5 year 50,000 mile planned obsolescence warranties of the nineteen sixties. Sure, cars last longer, but look at what maintenance costs. All of the car ads keep telling us that we're getting thousands of dollars in discounts, so we can pay through the nose down the road. I think that I'll stick with my 1954 Willys 3b, and send my 2005 Focus an 2004 F150 to the dump. The special tools and unreasonable parts prices are ridiculous.

I have a 2005 ford focus and for some unknown reason the drivers side headlight is backwards in that when I turn the brights on it points down and closer to the car and reverse for dims, the passenger side works normally. I've had the headlight assembly's both out replaced bulbs looked at everything carefully and still can't figure it out!! Dam ford it drives me nuts!!!!!

Worst light ever changed. Takes me days on the driver's side. Nearly impossible and I've had this car since 2008. Valvoline won't even change the driver's side. I've always had to pay ppl or spend days until it sits in but never gets tight so it falls out constantly. Pure hell.

Half hour replaced both lamps, no tools. I could have used some advice on how to do it without removing the front of the car. NO, it didn't help.
