In this video I show you how to replace a broken Heater Hose Quick Connect on either an Audi A3 or VW Mk6 Golf.
In this video I am specifically demonstrating this on my 2011 (MY12) Audi A3 1.8 TFSI Ambition.
The part that I installed was: Part # 1K0122291C (Genuine VW/AUDI Part). This is where you can purchase a high quality aftermarket part: amzn.to/3RTyk11
Tools used:
* Pliers
* Multi-Grip Pliers
* Screwdrivers (various)
* T30 socket
You to can DIY and save the cash!!!

Great tutorial. Just replaced this part in my Golf GTI Mk6. Cost $38 for the coupling and an hour of my time. Saved me a couple hundred dollars, cheers mate!

What a great video. I just had this happen to my A3 8P and noticed the coolant spilling out of the rear of the engine with white smoke everywhere. Turns out it was just this. Thanks for this detailed guide! This car has been a nightmare to own with all of the plastic parts in the engine bay.

Good comment to Audi about saving 50 cents and letting you break down on the side of the road. Have a 2015 Passat TDI SE, and I keep thanking VW for saving their 50 cents with plastic heater hose parts, all the while leaving me broken down a number of times now. But to be honest, VW is brilliant; I'm not sure how on Earth they could make anything even more cheaply? It really does take a lot of engineering prowess to actually make something as cheap as they have. Kuddos VW!

Absolutely brilliant tutorial. Wasn't so smooth sailing for me though. Golf 6 GTI, 2011, dsg, replaced both heater connectors. I broke the breather hose trying to replace these couplers. The breather hose requires some pressing on the tab to release. Getting these couplers to fit requires some effort. I couldnt get them to fit on the heater core pipes. The trick that helped, put the couplers in hot water then fit them.

I’m having this same issue. You just ran it under hot water and it snapped on? When I go to put the coupler on it doesn’t go all the way in and the metal wire doesn’t click into place

Hi Ameer, this car is actually my wifes daily drive so I couldn't wait, so I literally drove (in my Merc) to the closest Audi Service Centre the morning after it broke (it broke on a Sunday) with defective part in hand and once they opened asked them ever so politely to sell me one that wasn't broken! Also, given the criticality of this part I wouldn't recommend actually buying non-OEM anyway. Cheers Drew

very nice video and explanation. Only one tip, but at the 7:00 minute mark, it's not necessary to open the quick connect before pushing onto the heater core. They are made to connect in the closed position. Just push on...and you hear a click. That's the positive connect. Merci

Can I block both off to be able to drive the car? Summer time here dont need the heater. If possible what is the patch fix until I can get the part? Thx
@DrewFixIt
@DrewFixIt Жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, the issue that you have is that small barb to the small tube has deliberately been put in by the VW/Audi engineers to bleed the cooling system. So by bypassing the heater core as we used to do in the old days you simply then don't have the bleed mechanism to get rid of any air pockets in your cooling system and if you do have trapped air in the system your temperature gauge may not work. Note - I am told that some people temporarily screw in a screw into the hole where the small barb breaks off just to get home, but do this at your own risk! Cheers Drew

@@DrewFixIt Thank you kind Sir! Was able to get the part in the morning and had it installed in 10 mins. It took a lot longer to get the Intake piping back on. I must have rushed it cause I feel vibration in the clutch. So something is banging somewhere. LOL Awesome videos!

Great video, Sir. I was wondering if you had any ideas of freeing up a seized quick disconnect just like the one you replaced. My wife's did exactly the same thing. I pulled the spring clamp, but my fitting is frozed solid after 17 years. I cannot tell, but are the heater core inlet and outlet plastic? I do not want to break the heater core. Thank you so much.
@DrewFixIt
@DrewFixIt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, yes you have a dilemma here as you don't want to break the other plastic fitting. Suggest perhaps you could try temporarily putting a screw in the little hole where the barb has broken off, fill the radiator with coolant and then run the car up to temp. Once up to temp, shutdown the car and try to remove the fitting. *** Note - be careful you don't have a leak anywhere or that you don't have any big airlocks in the cooling system and be careful not overheat the engine! Cheers Drew
