Great vid - replacing the IAC made a world of difference. Found it was easier to remove the whole air intake than try and reach that bolt that holds it on.

I think it's pretty important these days to specify that you want a Mopar factory part if you go to a parts store. I asked for OEM once at the parts store in the past and was sold a part that was an off brand called "O.E.M." (Original Engine Management) which was a useless piece of expensive plastic. I didn't realize until post-install that my "O.E.M." part was not OEM; replacing with a Mopar part cured the problem.

@@topclips1872 what we're talking about here is specifically fuel/air management sensors. They're all available in Mopar when it comes to the 4.0 and it's often the difference between an engine that doesn't run and one that does.

Thank you for this video. You made the job much easier for me. I found it easier to initially find the IAC flange bolt by looking from the opposite side of the engine bay (past the fuel rail)and then get the T20 in there ( had my tools ready to roll ). I think total work time involved (including disassembly and assembly of everything ) was maybe 25 minutes???

whats your personal opinion on the parts from NAPA? I needed my vehicle fixed quickly so I didnt wanna wait for any parts from online to be shipped. But will the NAPA parts not last as long? Thanks for sharing this
@EmbarkWithMark3 жыл бұрын
I think NAPA is better than most. Yea, that is why most, including myself, go to an auto parts store is because we need the parts now and can't wait for parts to ship. I have had better luck with NAPA, but I do not think the parts will last as long as the factory and the quality isn't as good. When it comes to sensors I have never had good luck with anything but factory. So I tend to stay with factory parts regardless of the vehicle, if I can.

The tps and map sensor were easy, that IAC is a pita! I have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn and the fuel rail is in the way where my socket adapter is at it's fattest part. I have to remove the throttle body assembly to get at that torx screw. That's a good thing though, I should clean the entire assembly anyway.
@EmbarkWithMark3 жыл бұрын
Yea, the IAC can be a pain. If you have correct tool combination you can get in there to remove it. But it takes some finesse for sure!
@JeepTJWheelin3 жыл бұрын
@@EmbarkWithMark I just removed the throttle body assembly and now cleaning it and will replace the IAC with the Mopar one I got last week. All in all, it's a very easy job. It was running and idling better over the weekend after replacing just the map sensor. So it should be even better after this. Fyi, the best way to remove the carbon in the throttle body assembly is to use a long flat head screw driver and place a shop rag or layer up a paper towel over the tip and just lightly scrub off the carbon. It looks almost new afterwards.

I keep watching videos where no one shows a closeup of how to unplug the TP sensor. All people do is say "push the tab" but mine slides in and out and I dont know what position it should be in but I cannot get the darn thing un-plugged no matter what I do and I don't what to break it. After watching you take out the other sensor I see yours is missing the red tab but it's still plugged in so just how did you do it??? EDIT: I got it out by pressing down on the white part UNDER the red tab. Broke a few fingernails but no blood haha. It's frigg'n easy once you know how but you can't know your doing it wrong until you know how to do it right by luck or someone telling you. I had no symptoms other than an error code and poor gas mileage so at least I was not in a hurry. I cleared the code and it came back two days later. $140.00 at Chrysler because I heard the cheep ones might only last a few days to a few weeks.
@EmbarkWithMark Жыл бұрын
Those plugs are the hardest thing known to man to remove. Glad you finally got yours off. i struggle with these all the time. The red tab is a safety tab, mine does not have it because I broke it when pulling it apart at some point. They get very brittle. I could order a few, and probably should to replace them, but I have not. You did the right thing by buying OEM parts. Hopefully your issue has been solved!

@@EmbarkWithMark Maintenance? Neither item is a maintenance item. I must say, in 20 years of working on fuel injection, I have never found both bad on the same vehicle. I recently worked in an 89 Cherokee that did have a bad idle air valve. TPS was fine, looked original and tested fine. There is no need to do this unless there is actually a runability issue. And if there were one, I’d look for vacuum, ground or wiring issues before condemning a module.

If the idle smooths out with the TPS unplugged why not just drive it unplugged?
@EmbarkWithMark3 жыл бұрын
Without the TPS plugged in, the PCM uses an open loop limp strategy that severely limits any acceleration and relies on MAP and your o2's to run, reduces spark advance, and will behave pretty bad.

These old plastic connectors and hoses probably won't like it.
