Thank-you, sir! Like how you didn't edit out your struggles, makes instruction more down to earth. I just did this job on '08 Merc Mariner. Couple notes: 1) To remove bottom cover more easily, which has a rubber gap seal attached, I unclipped the top of the plastic cover on the dash below the steering wheel -- did not have to unscrew anything or take it clear off, just loosen the top. 2) Unclipped transponder ring first so didn't have to unplug it. But found I did have to unplug the other two plugs along with the larger one for the ignition switch assembly (ISA) itself in order to get enough slack on the combined cable to pull out it's plastic retainer clip. 3) To loosen original break-away bolt, I gripped it with a small vise-grip -- could only turn a few degrees, but after three tiny turns it was loose enough to unscrew the rest of the way by hand -- no Dremel needed. 4) Tied a string around the steering wheel to the other parts above the ISA so wouldn't slide down -- there's a small yellow gear in there that I thought best not to disengage. Otherwise it went basically as you detailed. 5.5 mm for (6) screws; 12 mm for break-away bolt on new ISA (the new bolt was ~1/4" longer than old). Didn't disconnect negative battery terminal. Didn't remove air bag and steering wheel. Didn't have to rekey anything (used original tumbler and transponder ring). Wished I'd had a swivel offset for 1/4" drive for the right screw; used a very short 1/4" hex to 1/4" square adaptor with the socket and turned with a 1/4" wrench -- slower than a ratchet socket, but worked fine. God bless.

@@BroVon-xb2rq I'm so glad I was able to help you yeah I don't like editing this is the real world bro I'm just trying to show how it's really done in real time in the field

Thank you, thanks to you I was able to remove the switch assembly, just paying attention to the screws that I need to remove, just the way you did it by looking at the new one. I seen other videos where the guy remove everything including the airbag, that for me it was scary. It you do it again with better video quality will be great for the viewer. Thanks again 😂😊

After watching you the turn signal assembly rotate around I was less worried about the clock spring. but I did use a piece of duct tape to hold the signal lever in and just did not let it ride forward. It was not too hard after watching these videos but I did have to fiddle quite a bit to get it to fit tight, It seemed to hang up on the left side were one of the plugs was so I loosened the tape so I could wiggle things around until I could line up the screw holes. For me it was two hours but that was including getting all the materials out and putting them away. I would say it was less than that. It came out pretty quick but at first I could not get the lock cylinder out as I was not sure how to push in the hole. I guess I thought it would spring out but it does not. I also put it back in the old one for a minute to see if I felt a difference. The one screw is tricky without a wobble or angling head rachet . So not having those added to the time. I also put a little time cleaning my plasticings. I was not stressed over this like if I was handling the airbag and steering wheel. It is amazing Ford charges $750 in my area to do this and the service rep said it had to be rekeyed. When I told her it does not, she dropped it $150, I bet you they do it like your video and still charge us claiming they had to pull the steering wheel. The only reason I can see they would think they need to pull the wheel is inexperience and that one screw.

Thanks for your video. After watching people taking off the airbag and steering wheel, I had heard that there was a way so it was good to see you demonstrate. Looks like the only tricky screw is on the right of the module. My question is what would be the best tool to get the right angle to get that out? What was the ratchet called that you use. Wobble head? What's the terminology for that type and what size Is your wrench that would be best for that angle? Was it a quarter inch or 3/8? Thanks

I hope you take the time to answer my question. Someone on the different post said they used a 5.5 quarter inch swivel but I don't know what that means. I don't know if they're talking that there are sockets that swivel and you can get them in 5.5 mm or if they're talking about two different pieces?

@@Thatsmessedupman yes get a 5.5 mm swivel socket with a 1/4 drive ratchet. Just did it my self. I just got two zip ties to hold the turn signal stock/clock spring.

Yes, I did the job a month ago using duct tape to hold the turn signal. But I did not have a swivel and it was still possible. It would say it was easier to get the nut out without the swivel then in but I took the ratchet off and hand tightened. So it is possible without any special tools but would make it easier. It definitely fix the problem

why do people in other videos on this subject remove the steering wheel? Is the problem different?
