Thank You so much!! Was able to fix my mom’s Mariner in 20-30 minutes!!

I did this in 2017 on my 2010 Mariner using a Duralast replacement part. It's now starting to fail same way (takes 3-4 tries on average of turning the key to get it to start). Time to go use that lifetime warranty and get another one! I just watched this very helpful video to remind me how to change this part out again. Thanks!

I'm having the same prob, same vehicle (2010 mariner) is there a lifetime warranty on these?

@@nicoleanne312 There was on the Duralast replacement part I got from AutoZone. They swapped it for a new one, free of charge.

Thanks for this video man! I have a 2010 mariner, pretty sure this is my problem, just ordered the switch going to try and save $100 and replace myself ... I dont have that curved tool though, what else do you think would work as a substitute?

For anyone wondering, I used a flathead screwdriver for the ignition switch clips ... it worked!! Just took a little bit longer. Im super happy I was able to do this and save myself hundreds of dollars. Of course tho, my luck ... I go to test it, wants to crank ... but battery died 😂

After 1 year the piece started to wear out and replaced the whole ignition switch collar without replacing ignition, so same key can be use.

How do you test the switch to make sure is the switch?

Turn key to on position than push key in and try to start car if it does not start your module is worn out i replace module on but it started to do it again after a couple years. I would suggest to buy the whole swith assembly without the actual switch so you can use same key.

Did you have to get a new key and programmed

There was need of getting key reprogrammed when this module is replaced

Hello I have a 2005 mercurry montigo no start no crank what should I look for
@HLAAAP3 жыл бұрын
While the battery cables are not necessarily the most likely issue to cause your Montego to not start. You can take a look at the battery poles where the cables connect. If there appears to be green or white corrosion all around it, cleaning them may help get you back on the road.

See Raven Bonanza reply. This will help you indenify a bad module

How do you know if this is the problem? There are many factors that cause to a "no crank" problems.

Turn key all the way without pushing it in all the way doesn’t start then push key in while starting car if this works most likely you have a defective module. This is common issue with this vehicle. Good luck and let me know if i can help with anything else

@@HLAAAP How long can I go pushing the key in before it screws me altogether?
@HLAAAP Жыл бұрын
@@sashamaryful eventually you will spend several minutes trying to start car. I would recommend that you replace as soon as you can.

I just replace it but my vehical still won't start. I have a good battery and alternator. I don't think it's my starter.
@HLAAAP3 жыл бұрын
While battery cables are not likely to be the issue, just check battery post for any corrosion and cables. Battery, starter and alternator will have to be checked also. To completely eliminate the module try this, turn key to on position with pushing key in, once in on position push key in and try to start vehicle. If no start you could potentially have a bad module. Try to get a replacement before you can say thats not your problem. Hope this works for you.

It the breakinh or wobbly metal piece that's inside the key cylinder, that is the ultimate problem, that piece goes into the igniion switch, which may damage the plastic inside the part and around the opening!! ... It can be replaced or rebuilding it and u keep the old assembly w the the key. if, u want u can cange the ignition piece. question is: where to get just that small piece...more internet research, i guess. one could just buy the entire mechanism. it will come with a new ignition switch and the new piece within the lcylinder. u reuse/resinsert the old lock/key into the new, assembly. No steering wheel nees to be pulled. The thing is if u just buy the ignition switch it could work or work for a while, the bottomline is if the old ignition switch hole or surrounding area, which is plastic, isnt damaged u could just rebuild that wiggley piece inside the old mechanism. There is a video of doing it...I belive a young lady is showing you how to buy the whole ignition mechanism or just use the old one and replace the inner piece of the key cylinder... I believe th whole mechanism costs under 100 on PGeek or Rock Auto. I just purchased a 2010 escape and its not starting. I had two new keys programmed, because i lost them. It sat for two months and that could be an issue, also. but finding this, i believe a good battery and changing the entire peice is my go 2. I can keep the old one and rebuild it on my own. i will decide, once i go pull the upper and lower guard
