good job - one thing for everyone to be aware of that you did not mention is you need to understand what coolant was in the system prior to putting in new coolant. You don't want to mix different coolants. That is bad news. If you had used Dexcool and then added that Peak stuff you would have issues. I would not trust the 'mix with any antifreeze claim on the bottle! ' I thought that vehicle would have come with Dexcool. Lastly never use a razor blade for this job. Use a plastic blade and some steel wool to make sure the surface is clean. Razor can damage that aluminum easily. A rare earth magnet cleans up the steel wool remnants but put a paper towel in the holes to keep them clean. Thanks for the video!

I'll let you in on a dealer secret. New cars make dick for money now a days. Used sales are far more profitable. The new places make up that income with mechanical services. What you want to do is find a brand focused mechanic(works specifically on a certain brand/s of car). Once you can trust the guy, he will save you gobs of money.

DRY ROTATION OF THE WATER PUMP As well as helping to keep the engine cool, coolant plays an important role in forming an efficient seal inside the water pump. This so-called mechanical seal is a “dynamic seal” typical for rotating equipment such as pumps. When a water pump operates, the liquid could leak out from the small gap (just a few micrometers wide) between the pump’s internal two rings that rotate relative to one another (one ring rotates with the shaft, the other ring is stationary). In order to avoid this leakage, a fluid barrier formed by coolant between the rings is needed. Dry rotation of the water pump can permanently damage the rings, leading to premature noise and/or coolant leakage. How to avoid: First refill the cooling circuit with coolant, then rotate the pump’s drive pulley about ten times without the belt tensioned on the pulley. This will allow a small amount of coolant to form the mechanical seal before the engine is started. If this is not possible because e.g. radiator hoses are disconnected, or, if you want to test the new pump’s rotation ability before installation, it is a good idea to pour some new coolant over the pump holding it the impeller-side upwards before rotating it about ten times. Alternatively, you could also fill a reservoir with new coolant and immerse new pumps to safely test them.

Thanks for doing this video! Gave me the confidence to change the water pump on my 2004 Suburban. I don't do car repairs that often. So not having much money, I decided to do it myself after watching this video. I used a pipe wrench to get the fan off. It was the only thing I had that was big enough to go around that fan bolt. Advice to others, the coolant can be messy. Don't do this in your garage or driveway if you DONT drain your system. Coolant is very poisonous to dogs so do do this where animals can get access to pooling coolant. So thanks for the video, you spaced me a ton of $.

I wanted to thank you for this video. I changed the water pump in my 05 Yukon with relative ease aside from underestimating the emphasis on the fluid that was going to come out. After only removing one hose the pan was catching little to non as it was splashing of other parts on the way down, so after cleaning up that mess I opted to use a kiddie pool to catch everything. Probably should have been filming that whole episode as it was no doubt hilarious. But, thank you again it was truly helpful and to the point. It's nice not to have to watch a bunch of useless crap in between. 😁

I got an 05 tahoe with the electric fan. Thinking I'mma need to change mine soon. The bearings are starting to squeek. It's really a simple job with the electric fan. You don't have to completely remove the radiator hose, just disconnect from the pump. Leave the fan shroud alone, it's not necessary to remove, at all. All you need is a good ratchet and maybe 3 different sockets lol. But I don't use a razor to scrape the block. Not since it's aluminum. I use a non abrasive scour pad. Cleans great and I guarantee you will never knick the mating surface.
