Excellent Sue! Always SOLID!!! Sue is a goto resource for me before I layout my parts and tools for a job. Sue’s voice work brings you along. Her side comments (listen closely), are anything but ‘side comments’- tons of meaty knowledge being shared. This is where you pick up the finer points and/or The Special precautions, care, force, patience, attention to meet each step. Or we may hear a groan, or sigh - she mostly steers clear of them, and we always know why. Great resource! Thanks Sue

Thanks! I followed along with this and changed the arm. It was a huge help. One suggestion that might help someone: My little link bar that is the one she removed last was under a great deal of tension and caused trouble. I think it might be because my car was on the ground and the other side of the car was under compression by the cars weight. Placing a second jack under the control arm I was able to compress ths side I was working on to the point where the link was under 0 tension and was easily removed. I suggest you take that part off first and put it on last. Second to hold the lower part of the link from rotating, I cut off an allen wrench with a hacksaw so it was short enough to insert there. Thanks again.

Tips: 1.) the top sway bar joint’s nut loosens the opposite way you are probably turning it as it is facing the other way. 2.) There is more than enough room to use an Allen wrench on the sway bar bolt and nut. 3.) If you’re vertical lower control arm bolt is stuck and will not screw out, it is a size 19 socket, your tire iron in the trunk is also a size 19 put the pipe of your jack on it for leverage.

Had to cut the arm in three places to get to it. With heat and a lot of muscle is came out. A little problem on the other side with the torsion bar bolt. But I’m almost done. Solid video the way it sb. Many thanks to the mechanic and the videographer. Great job. 👍👍👍👍👍

You're better off just cutting through the bolt, twice top and bottom, with a sawzall. You then just remove the arm and get a new bolt.

She makes this look so easy. It took my brother and I , quite some time, to push it back into place for the last part, I had to push it up from under while laying down on the ground, while he pushed it in and into place, I’m not sure where we went wrong. I would absolutely recommend doing it step by step the way she did it using the same methods, it will make the job a lot easier and faster, I would also recommend adding thread lock for added safety. Something I didn’t see her do.

Wow she made this look effortless and easy I still don't want to do it myself though because I don't have a lift
@Noizy_Boi Жыл бұрын
It's not bad without a lift. I just finished one side that was really destroyed. only jacked up midway on one side. Air/Electric tools to remove nuts and bolts help a lot, but you can't use it on everything here anyway. Don't mess up the ball joint or you are in for more work, like removing the CV axle from the spindle. I was dreading this too because I've never changed one, but it really wasn't as bad. If you have done other suspension/brake work you should be fine. Its literally like 3 bolts and 2 nuts besides the wheel lugs.

At around 12:26 I see you put your thumb under the ball joint and push the knuckle towards the hole in the control arm. Then the spindle moves towards the center of the car so that you can drop it in. How did you get that to happen? Thank you and great video!

Yes you want to torque the bolts with the suspension compressed into it's neutral position. The bushings can be pinched weird if you don't and cause premature failure.

The tact welds that hold the nut for the bolt that goes through the compliance bushing snapped on me while removing. And you were right... it definitely wasn't a good day lol. Finding a replacement Class 10 14mm x 1.50 flange nut was a pain in the ass. Screw Honda for those round welded nuts. lol
@christopherhaak98242 жыл бұрын
Just had this happen to me on both sides, had to cut through the bolts in two places to get them out. Went through 18 bimetal sawzall blades in the process. If you're willing to shim sleeve, grade 8 SAE in 1/2" is .05" too small and easy to source. My bushings were completely locked up on the bolts. I also cut out the sway bar links since I was replacing these. Remember to load the suspension, or jack up the hub before you tighten the control arm bolts.

As most people will be doing this job with the front resting on axle stands torque down the ball joint nut, hockey puck bolt and sway bar link first then place trolley jack with piece of wood on the ball joint nut and raise the suspension until the car just starts to lift off of the axle stand then torque down the rest

Good procedure, good videography. Missing critical items though. Number one, NO SAFETY GLASSES! The guy who did the axle replacement emphasized it numerous times. Second, you obviously sprayed liquid wrench on everything, but you don't mention that either. Lastly @ 18:00 you undo the bungee cord, but it was never recorded that you used it. I think you should reshoot the video, if for nothing else than the use of safety glasses.
