How To Replace or Reseal Brake Vacuum Pump

The brake booster vacuum pump leaking engine oil is common on FSI engines. Replacing an FSI vacuum pump, or the pump seal is a very easy DIY with just a couple of tools needed. One mechanic told my brother that to replace the brake vacuum pump on the 2014 vw Jetta 2.5. He needs to pull the transmission to replace that pump.

Better just replace the whole pump, usually the pump goes out within a year .....save time

vaccum pump in oil in bmw isnt that what i think. its not broken pump. but one direction valve. it takes oil vapours and pul it in break underpressue lines. valve to repleace whole lines to clean and breaks servo

I did this same repair on my '08 Passat. Also replaced the HPFP bolts with studs so I could periodically check the cam follower...except the local dealer took my studs and put bolts back in (I forget now why shop had it apart). Wasn't to happy about that. Keep the videos coming! BTW, I just passed 260k miles!

This video stands out from so many others on this repair, simply because of the angle that you're able to show the pump removal/replacement procedure with.. specifically the hardest to reach bolt that requires that really dumb bracket (Why, Audi? Why?) to line up when putting the replacement back on! Didn't catch this on the first go, after watching your video, I saw the bracket and went OMG AHA! Ran right out to the garage and bam! After some lining up work, the screw finally threaded in.. thank you for being straightforward but showing all the critical areas!

Wished I’d have listened to this video 2 weeks earlier 😂 absolutely love the content on the 2.0 Tfsi engines. I’ve got some very skeptics repairs after looking further into it... I broke the pipe on 1.18 seconds in😂 got to get one tomorrow. Decided to go for an aluminium one with extra long pipe for the small pipe to sit👍🏼

Hi Charles I notice that when I do the vacuum pump on the 5 cylinder engine I also remove the cover and the plastic fittings and I reseal the cover and the fitting with sealant .

Thanks to your video I was able to get the courage to do this repair and completed it. As you pointed out, the extra black fitting one needs to be careful of not losing. The third screw attaching the vacuum pump to the engine at 4 o'clock is blind to access and must be very careful not to drop it, or the Torx drive one may be using on it. Those screws use a T27 wrench. I was able to save 700.00 from the dealer quoted repair, who said the part could not be rebuilt.
