Hey, 2 thumbs up to you guys for working on a real rusted out Honda. Because that is exactly what I am looking at! And just a few months ago my mechanic said my brakes were just fine! I am replacing everything down there, rotors, pads, e-brakes, etc. Thanks for the real videos.

It should never need to be replaced. Unless it rusts so bad it loses its structural integrity.

When you do the wheel bearing is the time to do it since the hub has to be pulled to replace it. I just did mine and it’s not a hard job it just takes forever with all the rust.

Is it just me or does this job on almost any car seem way more involved than it should be? I can change out disc pads in a fraction of the time it takes to mess with these things :-P Thanks for the video!

A hammer blow with such force transfers to the bearing and may damage it. Just like hitting nuts or bolts when tightening a wheel.

A lot of drag on that. It should be tightened to contact then backed off. There is actually 2 adjustment procedures, using the actual handbrake adjustment inside. Surprised anyone would need to replace those unless they drove with it on, a cable adjustment is usually sufficient

Why am I taking the caliper off of the bracket? Can't it flip up if I need to compress it? Why would I hit the rotor on the braking surface with a metal hammer? Won't that damage it? I thought there are bolt holes to remove the rotor if it is stuck
@GleepGlop2

I cringed at that, but then the rotor got replaced. Yeah it would have been better to show how to use screws to get it off.

I watched your video and doing everything the same everything looks good but I cannot get the rotor on. The top part of the shoes keep the rotor from coming on there’s enough room on the bottom but it looks like the top shoes are out just a little bit too much and I noticed that they both will not rest on the pin at the top at the same time.

I had the same problem. I ended up filing down the connecting rod (metal spacer bar at the top). This part comes from the original brakes and was rusted. I filed down the overall length at both ends and made the notches deeper. This worked although is was very tight installing the rotor. Once the rotor was seated it fit properly.

@@joehidalgo1246the flat bar doesn't come with new emergency brake and screws pieces I just use a lot of grease and WD-40 to make it fit between the two brakes
@jameszander6805
@jameszander6805 Жыл бұрын
Yup. File if you need to. They all don't match up. Remember...Personally, I sparingly touch the flat bar contact points with grease. Also, unlike the vid...I would first check the actual parking brake tension adjustment in the vehicle. Make sure you are starting from a good cable tension foundation.

3:36 The way the rear rotor is angled and still not coming off means the parking brake was still applied lol...

Actually, not. I can not recall the times they have been slightly snug as this. Things get rusty around the hub. Put it back together clean, with ample never-sieze, and the next time you do your disc pads...remove the rotor for craps and giggles. You will see it was not the parking brake.
@derekr7814
@derekr7814 5 жыл бұрын
Way to much drag on that. When you adjust you should have contact and then adjust until there is no drag at all. Good job on messing that up lol.
