While the video does make it look easy (it's not) it helps a bunch with the replacement. The cool attitude throughout is as valuable as the process. It helps to know it can be done and although frustrating, it is possible.

This worked out great for me. The bracket nearest the wheel was the hardest to put back on. I got a !longer bolt and it was much easier. Thank you.

READ READ READ BEFORE YOU START - SAVE 3 HOUR OF YOUR TIME Posted this comment originally to a different video...most of the information is still valid...this is a horrible job so I hope this and the above video help. it can be done. I just finished this Job - 6.5 hour job over 2 days including the time to run to Home Depot. (you need a 17 and 19 MM wrench) I could probably do it in 3 hours now. This video is great help...However these are things I wish I knew as well. Watch the video First and then add this info to your plan. Again carefully watch the whole video IT will save you time in the end. Don't skim! MOST IMPORTANT - Don't buy the cheapest new steering hose. I did and it cause me hours of frustration because it was kinked. Here is the thing you need to make sure about your new hose. Look at the Rack end of the new hose. The last 4 inches should be perfectly straight, and the nut/fitting should spin freely. Mine was kinked slightly and the nut turned but lightly grabbed. Cause me hell and probably an hour and half when trying to get it threaded correctly. 1) If you have smaller hands, you can do this from the top. DO THE FOLLOWING to remove the hose a) Remove the Air Intake hose. b) Use two thick moving blankets folded into 4 layers so 8 layers total and lay on top of engine - protects you and make more comfortable. c) Remove the return line with a 17mm wrench. I did not do this originally...I ended up having to later. Should have done it from the beginning...would have save me LOTS OF TIME AND FRUSTRATION. DO IT First. d) Use a cutting tool and cut the hose right by the Rack fitting. I used an Oscillating Muti-Tool, it cut the line in 2 seconds. Then I used 19MM socket to easily remove the fitting from the Rack. You can use a 19mm wrench...but is a waste of time 2) Follow the direction from the rest of the video to remove the rest of the hose. If you cannot get the 10mm bolts holding the line on the bottom. Cut them with a Multi-tool. I did get the 10mm nuts off but was never able to reuse them. I ended up zip tying. Save your frustration and cut them loose if they don't come off easy. 3) I did take the passenger tire off and pulled the hose out the side. I reinstalled from there as well. 4) IMPORTANT WHEN RE INSTALLING. - push the new hose in from the passenger tire SIDE DO NOT THREAD THE OTHER END OF THE HOSE UP TO THE PUMP YET. YOU WANT THE PIPE TO BE "FLEXABLE" TO HELP YOU LINE UP THE RACK FITTING. 5) GET A HELPER FOR THIS PART! with someone holding the hose by the passenger tire have them help you push and wiggle the hose, so it lines up with the rack. As you work from the top with a 19mm wrench or with your fingers tighten the fitting into the rack. Having the helper make sure there is no binding on the fitting hopefully will make it easy to get the fitting thread started. FYI Mine was more than 8 rotations. 6 wrench turns per rotation - more than 48 wrench turns. Be patient or take a break. 6) Attaching the return line for me was easy - just took a little time as you again had more than 50 wrench turns. 7) follow the directions from the video to attach the pump side, secure the hose, attach electrical connector. I hope this helps some of you. These are things I would have wanted to know in addition to the video. ~Mark

He must have lowered the cradle down a bit to get the lines off the brackets. I'm doing this right now on a 04 Pilot 4wh drive. And when I say I have no room for ratchets like hes using, I seriously mean there is no way to get tools in there.

8 hour job for me, I am NOT an expert by any means, BUT, greatly appreciate the video as far as locations of retainer clips and associated bolts, and calm demeanor (“do the best you can”) did mine on ramps and most of the work from underneath, non angled 10mm ratchet wrench was CLUTCH because I couldn’t fit normal socket on any retainers. FYI vid shows 2 clips going back on backwards, no big, million ways to skin a cat, great video!!! 06 MDX

This took me about 8 hours to do on a line that was old. The old fitting was a huge pain to get out, along with threading the new one and finding where all the brackets go. There’s not much space to work in and it’s deeeep in there

Save yourself a heck of a lot of time by cutting high pressure line & return hose. Then use a socket with breaker bar. There's not enough clearance for a wrench. Plus you won't strip out nut. Prepare for bloody knuckles.

This hose is not easy to get to and this guy made great video. Just showinh the camera virw that clear on the return hose was great in itself. He said only what was needed. Showed onl wha was needed and did only what was needed. If you could make a perfect video this woul be it

I thought the video was great. One critique I have was the retainer before the actual rack fitting. Idk how you can get your hands there 1 two I can barely even see it. 2 idk about the pliers and clipping something to release it. 3 I just deleted it and installed a zip tie. That bolt was inaccessible from the bottom. I found it from the top. Felt like German engineering to me.

How are you getting to that power steering rack there is a lot of thing in the way underneath

Is it ok if return line tube is rusted and leak so we just replace that metal tube not whole hose and rubber pipes ? In honda pilot 2013
@I_am_trash2k4 ай бұрын
Can confirm this replacement sucks. Those without long skinny arms may need to enlist help. Took over 10 hrs for me personally and then I snapped the last bolt connecting the hose to the pump. Guess it’s getting fixed tomorrow. If you can afford to pay someone to do this one do it. Saving your money isn’t worth the hours of cursing

Just like the previous guy, it’s a horrible video on how to replace. It makes it look way way too easy and it’s not there are a lot of restrictions against you like even the throttle body was in the way and it doesn’t show them Ian messing with throttle body, you cannot get your arm down in there too, take those hoses loose lines…
