Thanks for this video. I've done brakes on other cars before and I have the service manual for this one, but it's so much easier to just watch someone do it and verify that there's nothing oddball about the job on the Q50. The audible wear indicator on mine snapped off, so I didn't know the inboard pad had worn down to nothing until I started getting metal-on-metal braking sounds. I just inspected, and yes, the rotor is pooched along with the pads. Parts on order, will be doing the replacement tomorrow. Thanks again!

Wow! You just made changing the rear pads 100 times easier than TekyGuy who had to use a special tool to compress the piston and took both bolts out to remove the caliper, I'm using Jim's method, super easy pad replacement.

When TekyGuy began the video by starting up and backing his other car out of the garage, I instantly went back to the list to find an alternative. So glad I did! Jim's video is fantastic. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this Jim, I appreciate you.

There's also a "hard braking" set procedure you should do when replacing a set of rotors before normal driving to be sure its all set. But great tutorial. A few tidbits that I didn't do the last time I did this, like cleaning rotors, greasing and changing hardware.

The dynamic braking turned on eats the back brakes up quick! My wife’s car started to grind and I was surprised the rears were shot compared to the fronts at 40k. I guess the dynamic steering/braking works over when I drive it. Always thought it felt like it’s on rails when I rip around corners. 😎

Just out of curiosity......is this procedure the same for Q70 and Q70L for model year 2015? I did a brake not (rotor/pads/perking brake on a 2012 M37 which was the predecessor of the Q70/70L. Fairly uneventful but the new rotors apparently had way too much of the rust preventative coating on the Rotor Hat. That by itself is not a problem but in my scenario there was not enough friction on the rotor hat for the parking brake to engage. Worked fine on flat surfaces but any up or down slope then it wouldn’t hold. Yes the parking brake shoes and hardware were brand new and installed correctly. Been a few months since my work was done but I do not seem to recall anything overly complicated or unusual steps or tools. Thanks for looking!!!

Great Video Jim! Do you still work out of your shop? The reason I ask is because I’m noticing vibration and some rumble from my brakes if I do a high speed stop. I only have 20k miles on my Infiniti but it’s all stop and go driving, but the car is a little over powered so I get carried away with my speed. What do you think?

So am I correct in concluding that unless the rotor is being changed the caliper bracket Dan stay attached? I personally would at very minimum loosen the caliper bracket bolts at each brake service. If nothing else get the bolt loose and make it easier next time when the rotors do need to be removed and replaced. Remember the factory torque specs are done by automated robots and tools. As the vehicle ages some bolts can seize and you could risk stripping the bolt head and or rounding off the bolt head and reducing a good gripping surface for the socket.

The job being performed here will get it done. However, if your a stickler for details like me, I strongly suggest anyone watching this to go watch Eric O. do a brake job at the South Main Auto KZbin channel! No offense Jim. He just does it better in my personal opinion. Great video still. Thanks for sharing.
