Thanks for making this video - it really helped me prepare for this job. Those E18s are no joke. Many curse words were hurled in their direction, I can tell you that. The bolt heads seemed very soft and easy to damage/strip. Similar to another commenter, I ended up using a ratcheting 15mm wrench to get the bolts out once I had loosened them enough with a breaker bar (didn't have a nice ratcheting breaker bar like the one in the vid...although now I want one!).

Just wanted to say what a great video you have made. The lady in the video is very clear and informative. I have not seen a better set of instructional automotive video. I just changed the rear brakes on my Saab based on her instruction. Superb , please accept my congratulations on a superb job.

At 9:50 I found that after loosening the upper bolt with the E18 torx, I was able to remove the rest of it using a 15 mm flare nut wrench. The removal of the screw holding the rotor is a good tip but this helped also. Thx for the step-by-step video!

Wish I'd found this video before I started the job. Ended up doing it this way. But this video reinforced my confidence that there really was no other way. Saab engineers wouldn't have done a shitty design job without gm insisting they use poorly designed vauxhall parts. Had a real saab and never had to deal with nonsense like this. Thanks for the great video.

When you removing that parking brake cable, before you cut it, try locking vice grips on it and just wiggling it back-and-forth. Worked like a charm for me

Mine was a 2009 model and it had a rubber boot over it. Lucky enough not to need to perform this cutting step.

Excellent info here! But for those of us not replacing the caliper can someone explain the procedure for 'screwing' in the pistons for clearance of new pads?👍

I bought and tried to use the E18 and it seemed small, I even special ordered the socket as per your recommendation and I am stuck with Maine Rust holding the Rotor bolt stuck in place.

Before sawing that emergency brake bracket you can spray a smee of PB blaster on it, let it sit for a few min then use a set of vice grips(not horribly tight) and it twist it back and forth. Has worked for me on both rear calipers.

It's amazing that you could take off the upper bolt for the bracket without touching the suspension bolt. When a brake shop replaced my rear rotors, they had to undo that suspension nut. Even the WIS manual says you have to undo the suspension nut. I guess GM made a bad design to make this job more difficult.

Great job! How do you know when you need a brand new rotor? Can you get a way with just new brake pads?

+Sandra Woods You'll want to inspect the braking surface of the rotor for any defects as that can be a sign they need to be replaced.

Would this cause a loss of pressure in the pedal (hung up caliper)? I have a 2.8T XWD Saab 9-3 with very worn rear brakes.. It was in storage for a long time and I went to move it once and the pedal started going to the floor. No obvious leaks anywhere. Did an ABS pump test. Thinking it is either the master cylinder or a caliper. The rear right caliper looks like the piston is very far out of its socket.

My anti lock brakes, trac control ,abs came on after changing all pads and rotors and ideas what the fix is?

When you undid the brake line, to save loosing to much fluid and making bleeding the brakes afterwards easier, you could have used a hose clamp on the flexi hose. Great video, thanks. Vinny. :-)

Nah Nah, never clamp a flexible. Top Tip. Push the brake pedal down as far as it'll go and jam it in the down position. This does the same thing as clamping a hose. You're then free to remove all 4 calipers if you so wish.

Not neccessary to use a torque wrench for the wheels, the only thing I use it for is for valve cover or top cover.
