@@jeremylindsey94 awesome, thank you. Further to my reply above, it really isn't hard. Go steady, follow the process, use the right tools and materials and you'll be there. I can do discs and pads in not much over an hour, but if you're a first timer, does it matter if it takes all of a Saturday? Remember, I've had almost 50 years practice.

Thanks, D4, good of you to say. I try to cover the stuff people need to maintain their cars on a day-to-day basis, rather than 'showy' expensive mods. (having said that, I am planning a series on speaker upgrades - I went Hertz, awesome👍)

What I would add is about the grub screw that holds the disc onto the hub. These are buggers for seizure or rounding off. This can be alleviated by a few deft blows with a hammer onto the disc face before trying to undo them. It’s worth doing as they are sturdy little things that take some serious drilling out if they do round off.... Trust me.
@CycloneCyd
@CycloneCyd 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are made with high grade rust resistant steel so are tough to drill out. On 'better' cars anyway (some cars, noteably Fords, don't have them as a cost saving!)

YES, I'm a big fan of the two pack Foliatec paints. Easy to use and VERY hard wearing. Single pack paints just don't last like this does: amzn.to/3qgXO7O CLEANLINESS is the key. Use a fibre brush in a drill amzn.to/3sqku7C

Do you have to do the bit with the cable before, and the bleeding after? Never done this when changing pads and discs, but do hang up the caliper so it doesnt damage the brake hose...

@CycloneCyd
@CycloneCyd 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know what they mean by this. If it was harmful to rubber, it would be no damn good for brakes❗ The slide pins run in rubber sleeves and the pistons have rubber gaiters. I'll send the Q to TMD and see what advice they offer (if any).

Cyd, I've had my 2005 Aero for nearly 5 years and its had 2 front nearside calliper's in that time, along with new pads and discs (302mm discs on mine), for some reason the discs always end up warmed as i always seem to have a sticking nearside calliper even though I have em replaced and the brakes cleaned up with new pads and discs etc, any idea what else can be causing this?, I dont do big miles lucky if I've done 20k in the last 5 years! Your video's are much appreciated

What is the difference between solid and drilled and grooved discs? Can I use drilled and grooved if my car has solid ones currently. Tia
@CycloneCyd
@CycloneCyd 3 жыл бұрын
Primarily looks. Also a reason for manufacturers and retailers to prize extra wonga from your wallet. Slots have virtually no effect on braking performance, but are likely to be noisy and wear your pads out quicker. Avoid cross drilled like the plague. The holes are stress raisers and you are likley to get cracking around them and they make the braking performance worse. Pagid are my favourite discs with Pagid pads (unless you're going on track, in which case use Yellow Stuff pads). Last well because they have Geomet corrosion protection all over.

I've gotten lucky and was able to use a flat screwdriver to push the pad and caliper piston back while it was still on the hub. Just opened the brake fluid reservoir and made sure it didn't over flow when doing it. Also my calipers had a 302 engraved on them.
@mikehumble1120
@mikehumble1120 4 жыл бұрын
NEVER do that. It’s too easy to “flip” the seals over in the master cylinder. The above way means you ain’t gonna cripple your car.
@CycloneCyd
@CycloneCyd 4 жыл бұрын
Watch the process carefully again. You will see that the excess fluid from retracting the piston is expelled via the bleed nipple. You SHOULD NOT allow the fluid to flow "backwards" up the braking system.As @MikeHumble says you can damage the master cylinder. You can also damage the ABS module. This is one of the worst practices garages indulge in and is frustrating to braking engineers at OEs.

302 is the size of the discs. The calipers are paired to the discs but only the 285 and 302 are marked.

For the amplifier, check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJTIn6GlmrN2h80 and this kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZaUe3WEnaarnpI. You'll probably need a new (secondhand) amplifier, unless you know someone who can repair electronics. is it a 5 speed automatic? Locking issues are usually either the door latch open switch which fails, or an issue with the door module (the window switch pack) Hope this helps **************** Überprüfen Sie für den Verstärker Folgendes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJTIn6GlmrN2h80 und dieses kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZaUe3WEnaarnpI.
