Gotta say thanks to OP for the video. Wouldn't have been able to change my tail light without this video (Toyota Venza 2012 model). Just a couple of gotchas if anyone else still has one of these cars and needs to do the same: - Pulling inside cover partially (which the OP secures with the elastic rope after): when pulling the side inside cover you will hear some popping sounds as there are some plastic inserts being detached from the chassis, which is ok but you will need to pull a bit hard (the sound in the video goes off a bit before this, which would give you a clue on what's going on, but it's all good, just make sure you remove all the other screws and nuts shown in the video beforehand) - Deep socket tool: make sure you get a 10mm deep socket tool as some basic toolboxes don't have it and you will need them to remove the last 2 nuts (the video shows this tool in the beginning but I had missed it, however you can easily order just this socket from Amazon) - Final nuts: this part goes a bit fast in the video and I missed it, but when you're about to remove the last nuts with the deep socket tool, there are actually 2 nuts that need to be removed (the video goes a bit fast here and I only saw one so I was trying to pry the light out without removing the other, which is a bad idea, lol) - Finally, after removing the nuts, you need to try to detach a plastic insert, which the poster does with this blue lever tool but it's really difficult to see where he's reaching. Try to look at your new light to give you some guidance on where to use the lever (I used a flat head screwdriver). In my case, I ended up breaking the plastic inserts on the old light but I think they were already half broken and since the light was going in the garbage anyway, I didn't really care. Hope it helps someone and, again, Great Video!

This comment was super helpful. I found the final blue lever was applying pressure to a lower silver bolt on the back of the light until it popped out. From there the whole light was very easy to pull out by hand

Thanks man, really helpful!!! Ended up changing it in less than an hour! To save you some time at the auto parts store the 6 point 10mm socket can be 3/8” long but longer may make it easier (that’s what she said!)!

No you don't to change a bulb....if tail light pod is damaged, you do need to remove and replace the pod.
