Unless there is some other issue I never pull the hubs to do s cams and bushings. Pull the cam tube and knock the outer bushing out and the cam will get enough angle to slide out, put the seal and bushing on the new s cam and drive it back in. I use a short piece of an old cam to drive the bushing into the tube. Trailers are easier but it's pretty much the same

@Nato-kz8he Жыл бұрын
Usually when putting on those seals we use an old frame bushing boltalong with the washer to use as a punch. Keeps that seal straight and centered all the way through. Kinda like putting oil seals on.

If you get the bushing out while the cam is still in, you can remove without removing the hub just gotta apply some heat and the bushings will become real easy to remove with a flathead

Carnal ; to install the seals , just cut the old s cam about 6 inches long from the outside of the S side and drive the seals with it , just use 1 of the big washers between the S and the seals so you can have a flat surface to drive them perfectly , a lot easier and faster 👍🏼👍🏼

@CORKILL9113 жыл бұрын
Probably had trouble with the free-play of you bushing because your using a puller for your brass bushings witch flared them . Use a tube shape punch . Use the s-cam with washer to fit your seal perfectly on. Saves me lots of time
@painkey11892 жыл бұрын
You can get the s cam past the hub if you cut it in half. With the old seals and bushing gone there should be enough room for the new cam, you just have to put your washer, seal and bushing on the cam first.

For the shop I work at, to do a double axle brake job with removing hubs and s cams and bushings it’s 10 hours. One axle half of that.

I love your jack stand. It can’t slip off, but I would put it on the axle. I’ve tried the brass bushing but they brok into pieces.very disappointing. Nylon holds up the best but they are shit too. When new they don’t fit tight and have at least 5000 thousands clearance. Withe this much slack, a little wear, and bumpy roads the cams just were out in 8 months. Truck brakes are shit. They should last for years without lube or repair.

@samrepairsdiy3 жыл бұрын
Yes if the bushings are worn out when ever you break it's going to have vibration and the trailer is going to jerck when ever is empty or on light weight.

What would be the labor cost at a shop to get this job done?
@shawnevans91063 жыл бұрын
$800-1000 roughly. It’s usually $340 for the wheel seal. Plus the you have to remove an reinstall the slack adjuster, then the s cam and bushings. Est is for the whole axle.

how do you know the bushings are worn
@serhammalot013 жыл бұрын
If the bushing spun and you can't install a new grease zerk it should be replaced and if the s-cam shaft doesn't spin freely in the bushing, bushing should be replaced. It's just basic common sense really, the S cam shaft needs to move freely to work properly and you'll have to replace anything that is stopping s cam from moving and doing its job
@pep57722 жыл бұрын
By the play on the shaft
@justinzettlemoyer7175 Жыл бұрын
Before the install. Really should have run the dremmel around the face of each side. Beveling it inward. The seals wouldn't have cought an edge on the way in. Other then that. Good video.
