For anyone doing this clutch replacement in year 2019. I just did mine 4 days ago. Everything in this video is correct, just a couple fillers. 1. Passenger side CV axle is a two part axle with a half shaft. The half shalft is bolted to a bracket with two bolts (top and bottom can be reached from under the car) then the bracket is bolted to the engine block. You do not need to remove the bracket from the block like I did, you just need to unbolt the axle from the bracket then it should slip out with some effort. 2. You might end up having to remove the cross member running from the firwall to the front of the car which is also connected to the rear motor mount. If you go this route I recommend using an angle grinder to remove the part that bolts to the engine mount becuz it's not needed and it's easier install in the future, the cross member is bolted in a sandwich fashion(chassey, crossmember, engine mount) which makes it a pain to get out, so I cut the piece once I took it out. 3.last you might have to remove the front motor mount for more clearance, along with and plastic under splashes, nothing to hard. Now this video and comments are complete.
@hlopez39754 жыл бұрын
J bow yeah correct for the most part. This detail on the support makes sense. Wish I would’ve known this before trying. Now gotta spend money on the angle grinder

The clutch on my 07 TC went out and I was quoted $1,100 for parts and labor. I reached out to a friend that owns a shop, and he said he would do it off the clock for $876. I do the mechanic work on my cars but had never replaced a clutch. I regret not doing it myself after watching your video. I would have saved $706 for the labor he charged me for.

I'm putting a clutch in an 08 TC tomorrow morning, and this video definitely gave me a good idea of what I'm in for. Great job, you were very thorough and seem to know what you're doing! I'd recommend using a dab of red Loctite on the flywheel bolts. Don't want one of them backing out on you. Again, great job and thanks for the vid!

Thank you Jay super helpful. I fell asleep at the wheel after working a double and ran my 06 tC in a 4ft ditch hit a culvert and ramped over a fence thankfully the car didn’t get too damaged my face took most of the impact. Now I’m rebuilding the whole thing I love this little car. I’m not having any trans or clutch issues but I’ve been looking into how to replace everything in the engine bay. I’d rather watch a video from another enthusiast rather than a pro mechanic. Great video man. Keep on wrenching.

Thanks for this video. I’m going to replace my daughters clutch assembly in two days. My cousin and i were just talking about our professions I’m into aircraft repair and he into automotive. He’s 56 now but as a teen he changed a clutch assembly in the street(Jamaica Queens NY) and lined the clutch with his finger. That was them moment he thought about auto repair. He even taught automotive in the 90’s. Thanks for this video. My children cannot afford a automotive repair shop so I help them out when I can. It took me about 15 straight hours to replace. You video was very helpful.

This was a great video and really impressive mechanic skills. We’ve got our 2012 Scion tC in the shop right now to change the throw out bearing and clutch, and we wanted to see what work was involved in that job. Thank God for a NAPA credit card, or we’d be out of luck right now, bc there’s no way we could do this work on our own. When I was growing up, if your brother or uncle or cousin couldn’t help you out and figure out how to fix your car in the back yard, then it didn’t get done and the car ended up in the junk yard lol. Nobody can afford car repairs nowadays and people don’t help each other out now. Things were so much different when I was younger. So I really appreciate this helpful video. God bless you.

Dude you are the only person on the net with a video for this job, thank you so much. Been looking at write ups for a transmission, clutch and flywheel replacement for my 05 tC, plan to do the job this weekend with some help. Write ups are great but seeing it on a video is worth a 1000 words. Do you have any tips for getting the subframe cross member back on? I read that it won't line up with the frame and the motor at the same time so it can be tricky to get it all back together. What was your experience?
@jaykadafia7 жыл бұрын
Keegan Spraker thanks so much! And yeah that was the main reason why I did a video because I couldn't find any for our cars. & what I suggest is doing this. I used my tranny jack and a floor jack. I jacked up the cross member and aligned everything with the rack and pinon bolts first. After getting cross mem bolts with rack and pinon. Next I aligned the cross member with the sway bar bolts and the two main bolts thats on the car frame i tighten up last and wiggled everything in place. It was frustrating at first cause I was like. WTF how imma get this back up. I cant bench press this up and tighten the bolts at the same time. So I used the floor jacks and tranny jacks

Good video man, major respect for doing this by yourself. Did this last year and thought I was going the extra mile replacing the rear main seal, but autozone gaskets suck and it started leaking the day after I installed the clutch. So now I'm trying to see if there are easier ways to remove the transmission, removing the crossmember is the worst part of it all. I wonder if its possible to pull the trans from the top.
@jaykadafia7 жыл бұрын
SumnerKidd thanks man! & tbh you can get it from the top but you'll need a engine hoist to take the engine+tranny out. Plus it would probably be more work disconnecting alternator, engine wire harness, removing the radiator. You should remove the cross member bro ! It's easier than the steps looks lol
@joshstane59266 жыл бұрын
More JDM if you try and pull tranny alone through the top you can’t do it.. trust me. Spend HOURS trying to do that.. end up just “pushing” it through the bottom. No sway bar or cradle taken out. Pretty much, axles and mounts was enough for me

Great video. Do these steps work for pulling an automatic trans to replace a torque converter for an 06 Scion XB? Mine is shifting hard and the repair caost is outrageous. I'm considering buying a used one with less miles and swapping or taking a chance and just doing the converter. Your thoughts?
@jaykadafia7 жыл бұрын
Max Heffern Yes the steps should be 100% same the since its FWD. And To be honest with you, I would go with either two routes (A) is buying a used transmission with the torque converter attached and doing it yourself to save all that labor cost because you can replace just the torque converter on your tranny but usually when torque converters goes bad they clunk up the tranny and metal shavings can get in the gears and ruin the tranny and create those hard shifts you're experience. I'd just play It smart and stay safe by replacing the whole tranny and converter especially if your xb has high miles ,because It would suck so bad for you to have to do this job again later down the road (B) To 100% play it safe. I would drop the tranny take it to a shop and have it inspected before u put a new convertor in it & if he says "its good to go and only has normal wear on the gears and you should be fine". Then I'd do the convertor only. But honestly (choice A) I would just put the used tranny in there with low mileage. Just be safe buying used parts, i bought 3 engine heads and all where bad, but i realized after putting them in the car. Make sure you have mileage info, the tranny has been tested and a warranty. Good luck! If you need any help, you can always reply to any comment on my channel
