Having purchased a previously owned vehicle this is one of the areas I was concerned about. I suspect it is still the factory fitted belt so I am very pleased to have seen your video on how simple it actually is to change. Thank you for the well formatted instruction.

Thanks a lot for your comment. Sometimes it's easier than it seems. Just need some time to start the work. ;)

You actually don't need to remove the fan. There is a yellow marking on the fan and when you position this marking to the belt tensioner you can release the pressure from the belt a shown, remove the old belt and install the new one. I have done it twice already after about 90.000 km each.

Thanks for your message & sharing on another way to remove the serpentine belt. In any case, we find it easier to remove the fan as it stays in the way :)

Yes, the fan has a larger gap between the blades in one location on the fan to allow the belt change

Love your instructional videos guys, please keep them up! When you put the fan back on, did you just spin it tight? Or did you need to tap back down tighter using the same wrench+hammer trick as you used to loosen it? Thanks!

I am 2 years late: Nevertheless: When looking at your engine from the front (1:23 Mark), what is the device on the 10/11 Clock position? Is it the AC compressor or one of your accessories?
@offtrackfamily Жыл бұрын
You must be looking at the heater box, it isn't one of our accessories

Thanks for the upload. How often should you change this belt?
@offtrackfamily4 жыл бұрын
The workshop manual talks about every 200'000km but you can just check how it looks and change it before that if you see it's damaged for exemple.

Great video- after some ominous squeaking from the engine bay I am going to attempt this on my puma. Do you know what torque settings (if any?!) these bolts need to readjusted to? Thanks for the video :)
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The best is to check the workshop manual if a certain torque is needed.

With the fan and shroud removed, take a look at the overall condition of the radiator for small leaks, and consider blowing out any bugs, seeds or other contaminants that may have clogged the fins.

Why did they put the engine so far back ? That means the bell housing bolts are almost impossible to reach. Looks like the engineers left the building.

You should confirm with a garage to be sure you take the one needed for your Defender.
