To get that 12 mm bolt out, it's easier to access it from the front passenger wheelwel. Remove the fender liner material and you'll see the crank pulley. The bolt is located approximately 45 deg to the right of the crank pulley bolt. Undo the bolt with a small ratchet. To pull out the whole assembly it's better to pull it from the top of the engine otherwise you would have to undo the crank pulley to take it out which is a lot of work. This process seems to be the same for all Honda J series v6 engines

This video saved my sanity tonight! I was replacing my alternator and couldn’t figure out how to release the tension enough to get the belt back in place. Another video said you had to use the lower tension arm bolt with a breaker bar from below. I tried that and just about stripped the bolt. I watched this and saw how much travel you can get from above. I tried this method and had the belt back on in just a couple minutes. Thank you!

Make it easy for yourself. Take the passenger side tire off, remove the splash shield, then use 12mm with extension, and finally use 14mm to take off upper tensioner bolt.

That's what I did when I replaced the tensioner and belt on my '05 Pilot back in '14. If nothing else it made routing the new belt over the lower pulleys much easier.

So I replaced the same tensioner on my 08 Honda odyssey because the belt was rubbing on both pulley's. Yet when I went to place the belt on, the belt simply slid onto all the pulleys. I tried to push the tensioner pulley back but only the bolt on the tensioner pulley moved not the arm itself. Any info would be appreciated

+Rogelio Sanchez Since there could be multiple reasons why you’re experiencing this difficulty with your vehicle, I strongly recommend that you have a reputable mechanic inspect it. They’ll be able to troubleshoot the problem and tell you what part or parts you’ll need for the repair. It could be that the arm had seized

I'm going to replace the belt as preventive maintenance on my wife's Pilot. I don't know when it's been changed last, but it has at least 60k miles on it. Should I replace the tensioner too? I figure I might as well right? She's got 175k on the car now and we bought it with 130k. Been a great vehicle for us.

+Jeff Button The tensioner should just be inspected before replacing since you can't a mileage number on it when it fails. It either it work or it doesn't.

Dealership replaced the timing belt 2 weeks ago. Now, suddenly their is screeching noise and they say they serpentine belt tensioner has failed. Seems fishy to me. Are those two systems completely separate and how could they have caused that problem?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 5 жыл бұрын
+James Barta They will be in 2 different locations, and the serpentine belt will have its own tensioner likewise to the timing belt. The replacement of the timing belt didn't necessarily cause the failure of the serpentine belt tensioner. 1aauto.com

on these it is not likely they CAUSED it, but possibly the compression of the dampener caused it to leak out and fail, or they left it too loose. Id give benefit of the doubt in this situation.

Why not just buy the tensioner and the idler component and reuse the unit? Its 50% the cost.

Damn. Wish I would’ve known that, I just spent days removing the tensioner, alternator, ac compressor, and the bracket that they all bolt to so I could drill out the broken bolt and extract it (after breaking 7 drill bits and a punch getting it out. 🤦🏻‍♂️
