Why did you need the spring compressor tool vs. just dropping the axles down further & letting them fall out?
@RICKAFIX7 жыл бұрын
+KEITH HESNEY I didn't trust my jack and there are not to many videos on actually compressing the springs..
@billymccaleb4 жыл бұрын
Great video and like you stated Ive never seen the springs compressed. Definitely a great video for a non mechanic

hello, i have a 2002 Chevrolet suburban with 150k. I'm getting ready to replace the shocks and struts, is it worth it to replace the springs and spring seats also? Thank you for your time!

Good idea with tightening the spring compressors using the jack. Those things get scary on big springs like that!
@RICKAFIX8 жыл бұрын
Hey Badger yeah that first one I didn't know if it would just go off..lol but the second one I just man handled... wait that didn't sound right
@Lokiwho8 жыл бұрын
I'm getting ready to do this with the same shocks and springs. I have that same Milwaukee impact and use it on all of my vehicles and I swear it can tackle anything. Also, I'm pretty sure you didn't need spring compressors if you just went ahead and took off the sway bar end links off while supporting with a jack the springs would have came out if you lowered each end with a jack. Good video though, I'm sick of watching mechanic videos where the people are proper and don't swear.

You don't need a spring compressor tool for the rear ,just lower the rear end
@RICKAFIX7 жыл бұрын
yeah I just did that to show how to compresss the springs...
@chrismacphersom32583 жыл бұрын
When your on the trail wheeling that spring compressor tool will make all the difference. Sometimes we're not gonna be on a flat surface. We're in a mudhole. Or articulated out. That tool will be handy I'm telling you.
@saltycrowgarage72152 жыл бұрын
It's less work using the spring compressor alone

You forgot to tighten one nut Rick. I watch the whole video and you forgot the one nut between the left and right leg...HA hA HA hAha..lol Oh that was too funny. I crack myself up. Good thing you said that you got the tip from Jerry. If anything goes wrong you can blame him. Of course he will go to his closet and pull out a manual from 2004 and prove that he did it right and you messed it up. OMG the two of you crack me up. Oh wait no it is me that cracks me up...Oh what ever. Thanks for the vid and have a safe trip buddy. -John

You could remove both shocks and sway bar end links and put the jack under the rear end and lower it down and you won't need the spring compression tools brother 😜👍🏻👍🏻 the rear end will lower enough

Thats what I was thinking. Then again if he did that it would mean he would have had more time to mow the lawn, and whole the hell wants to do that..lol

That AC Delco jack is on its last leg...when I raise the truck it is only on three wheels lol I just didn't trust the Jack and as low as I got it the brake line only had another inch or two of give...but yeah next time I would do that for sure.. It did cross my mind several times...thanks SS

That Milwaukee impact tool looks mean there Rick. It sounds like it's got the power to tackle anything that you throw at it. Very nice work as always Rick and glad to see that it went well for you. I bet that truck rides totally different now with new shocks all around and new rear springs. Oh, tell your lady friend that she's a funny lady. Thanks again for the shout-out and be sure to be safe on the highway going down to Florida.

Eric Autrey there is an aftermarket kit that you can get to bypass the auto ride system. From what I remember it just plugs into the existing harness.

Way overkill that compressor was not needed and you put yourself in a dangerous place by using it! Those suspensions let the springs out without all that dangerous work! Glad you didn’t get hurt!
