People are complaining about his use of shark bite connectors. I paid a plumber $300 labor to do this job. If he’s gotta replace a little Pex and a couple of connectors in 5 or 10 years, I think he’s doing ok. He now has very easy access. As for using Pex, I know of very reputable plumbers that are using it, and have been using it for years.

DYI plumber here & I learned the hard way that shark bites are shyt. They almost ALWAYS leak because there isn’t a good seal.

Most shower valves supported but a 2X4 , do we need to cut that out ? And how we reattach?

Yes, you cut them out if you open the wall from the back like in this video. Then you will make a new one and in most cases, since pipes are rigid, you will have to use thin, long stainless steel bolts to secure valve from the back of the support. Basically, predrill holes in the support in the right place, solder or press new valve, install backing with pocket holes, pass bolts thru the valve into newly installed backing, secure bolts with washers and nuts. Alternatively you can use bunch of silicone on the valve to attach backing to it, but it’ll be a PITA to replace later.

@@quillo2747 THEY....ALL....LEAK. You can't quantify it by saying there is "zero risk". Where's your proof? My point, ...SharkBite gives an actual best before date. 25 years. If it leaks, and it will, pull it out and put in a new one. Done in 15 seconds. BTW, I prefer soldered over anything else in the industry. None of the new plumbing fittings have the proven market share.

This entire job is trash. I hope this is his home and not somebody that laid him to do this. I’m not going to get into the sharkbite argument, but the valve is only supported with pex. It’s going to be loose and move around. If you’re going to be lazy and use sharkbite then spend the $5 in copper to make it more secure. That “panel” in the back is an embarrassment for everybody. If you can’t mud it then just leave the drywall. That trim you made to cover incompetence is gross.
