In this video, I will walk you through the steps to install a new shower valve (Amazon - RKF Pressure Balance System) in an existing shower that has ceramic tile using basic tools! There will be no need to repair and/or replace the ceramic tile or tub surround. It’s a lot easier to just repair the drywall on the opposite side of the wall. Following these simple instructions, you will not need to hire an expensive plumber and this project was done for less than $100!
As always, thanks for watching!

I was really skeptical of tge PEX line back around 10 years ago before I helped run all the plumbing in a multipurpose building for a Bible camp. I was amazed at how simple PEX made the process & now Shark Bites are even easier without the need for any special tools. And you're right you might not be a "real" plumber, & when you're talking about water & the risk of causing thousands or tens of thousands of dollars of damage & mold abatement due to a bad solder joint keeping your ego in check & knowing your skills & limitations is vital.

How did you secure thoese copper pipes to valve, does valve has compression nuts or you just pushed them in and that was it? How far did copper pipes went inside valve, 1/2 or 1 inch when connected?? My existing valve is too deep into wall so cartrige not sticking out like it supoused to. Iam assuming once I installed valve I can pushed it out more, maybe add a piece of wood behind or something ?? I also have acess in the back wall so I will be doing g what u did. Where did u get that valve?? I don't wat to solder ether. Lol Any tips before I begin so I do t make mistakes🙄

Great video Ron, I will definitely try this 👍👍, and also I have a suggestion (observation), the teflon tape should be wrapped the opposite way you are doing it and also to avoid it unravel and having to turn the valve to apply all the unraveled tape, just turn the roll and you can put it tighter. Again, I loved your video man, very useful.

@@sammy7237 Maybe I didn't explained myself, but I was talking of the way he is holding the tape roll, should be the opposite way, not the direction of the tape on the pipe, if he turns the tape roll the other way it won't unravel and can be applied tighter. Maybe I should make a video and post a link here :p. I hope I explained myself better this time, and if not, just let me know and I will make the video :). Thank you for replying to my comment. cheers

@rontalley

It’s a multi-sensor that detects humidity, temperature, motion and luminosity. When there’s no motion for a set period of time, the lights go off. If humidity rises fast and goes over a set percentage, the exhaust fan kicks on. When it’s dark and someone enters the bath, the lights come on. Etc. Thanks for watching!

@rontalley 2 жыл бұрын
Remember that this is for the average DIYer…You should have about an inch between fittings to be able to “remove” the Sharkbite fitting…So in this scenario, I would’ve of needed to cut the copper back way past the soldered coupler, buy another Sharkbite coupler just to leave room for removal…Well, surely that’s not cost effected and adds 2 more points of failure. You can just cut the copper back if you ever needed to remove the fitting. The towel was to avoid leaving scratch marks on the brushed gold arm. Thanks for watching!

This isn’t for professional plumbers nor those who know how to solder…This is for people who want to tackle a weekend project using these fittings which are, and have been for years, rated for behind wall installation. I’ve been soldering for 30+ years and if they are good enough for my house then they are good enough. Soldered joints leak all the time. Also. If you have been plumbing for 12+ years, then you should know that copper in residential is pretty much a thing of the past as most of us now use PEX. Thanks for watching!
@pmgolf5305

i agree i guess but pex is inferior to copper for long term use Fact . And what i post in your comments could be read by other watcher , Its just an opinion , And information then can take with them when making these decision .. Really no need to get defensive about . If someone is remodeling a shower , And alot of time beheind theyre Shower wall is the outside of theyre house .. And installing shark bite in these areas are a disaster waiting to happen .. Cheer up !

@@pmgolf5305 no offense taken, at all. I take pride in my work and I’m not saying I know it all. However, shark bites sometimes get a bad rep when most of the time they fail because they are not pushed in all the way. They work, they are fast and easy to install. The failure rate is below .005 and they are rated for 25 years. Again, I wouldn’t use them in my own home nor suggest them if I didn’t have the experience and confidence in them. Out of the 1000 or so repairs I’ve made with them, I’ve never had one to fail nor had any issues in that regard. You are right about the tape though. Good catch. 💪🏾

This project is super easy. The magic or the hard part is the measurements. Measuring and cutting the copper. You can’t compress or stretch steel so cuts have to be good. Next is the depth of the valve in the wall. This is determined by his 2x4. So videos like this mostly show the easy parts. The fun stuff i.e Cutting, connecting… The boring, tedious and crucial stuff is determining the Measurements. If you ask 10 people what’s more exciting Shop or Math class? Most will say shop. So let’s make sure lots of the shop is captured on the videos. Math is boring. My only point is take your time. Get accurate measurements the rest should go well.
