I have just replaced the black surround frame holding the mirror and indicator light bar on 2015 535i LCI without removing the door panel. The only tricky part is threading the light bar electric lead through the circular tube to make the electrical connection. Oh and be careful not to lose the torx bolts down behind the inner door panel by sealing the gap below the bolts before you remove them.

Just got done doing this to a 2013 528i, I'd say the sketchiest part of the job was taking off the door handle plating. It felt like I was going to break it but then it just gave. Thanks for step by step video guys, you're really saving people money!

It is not necessary to remove the door panel in order to remove the mirror; it's even rather obvious from your video.
