i haven't had any issues with the drive health degrading yet but I have seen the reports on it. As far as I've seen , just the health is reporting bad but none of the drives have died or lost any performance so until Samsung makes a statement or these drives start dying I presume it's just a firmware issue causing the s.m.a.r.t. health to report inaccurately.

Awesome video! Been having sh*tty intermittent issues with my Mediatek (random disabled wifi, bluetooth issues, etc), and looking forward to replacing mine with the AX210. Just a quick question though, I'm a bit iffy in removing the battery, can I just drain the battery then replace the wifi card?

I would definitely unplug the battery if you can. if it wasn’t under the SSD then there wouldn’t be anything to worry about but flash storage is particularly vulnerable to short circuits and it will be extremely difficult to completely drain the battery since the device will refuse to turn on long before the battery has completely lost voltage.

Thinking about upgrading the Internal SSD in mine from 1 to 2TB, and going from 16 to 40GB of RAM DDR5 has 32GB sticks, although 40GB is a lot, I tend to have a lot of chrome tabs open... but I could also just build a desktop with DDR4...

make sure the driver bit is the perfect size for the screw if there's a little give or its not seating properly then its not the right size, add a little pressure not too much just enough so you get good torque.

If you put straws over plier teeth burn it to melt it so it doesn't conduct on the PCB then try to twist it from the outside

I'm looking to upgrade my SSD and WiFi card, but I'm doing the WiFi card first, how much of a increase could I see with the new WiFi card, because I already get 567 mbps download speeds with the stock one, which is good, but I think I can get a little better speeds.

You won’t see much of a difference in terms of speed, the mediaTek one that comes stock is already Wi-Fi 6E capable it’s just not very reliable in my experience so that’s why I replaced it.

Hey man, I watched your RAM upgrade video with the benchmarks on a few different games that you play and it convinced me to upgrade my RAM as well.. Would you say it's worth upgrading my SSD as well? I got slightly better numbers with the Western Digital they put in my G14 but I'm not sure if you have the 2021 or the 2022 model. My question for you is, will you actually see close to 7000mb/s speeds in real world usage ? Benchmark is cool but not worth spending more $ if your really going to get half that speed on a daily basis in games or saving videos etc....

I have the same thing. Zephyrus G14 2022, Samsung 990 Pro. The only difference is I have an UGreen enclosure. I was able to format the 990 and gave it a drive letter. The only problem now is that Samsung Magician is not giving me the option to select it as a target drive. Anyone else with his issue?

Great video! I just did my SSD with the same. I didn’t do the Wi-Fi card but also haven’t really had any problems with the stock one in the month I’ve had it. Is the stock one really that bad, and should I replace it?

Yah I've noticed my wifi is really bad as well. It's so bad that within a couple days I instantly realized there's something wrong with it. I however wonder if his upgrade helped, as I think the fact that it is right under the SSD and a heatshield is causing the poor connection

Not necessarily I just have always had amazing experiences with Samsung when it comes to any kind of flash media (ram & ssd’s) also I’d seen that it’s overall faster than most if not all the other drives on the market so I had some Best Buy rewards point saved up and decided to just do it because none of the other new gen 4 drives 2TB or more from other brands were in stock so I’d say it just happened to work out that way.

​@@andeluuledna that's what happens when you use the wrong type of screwdriver or wrong size one, or just a shitty quality one but that should be less of an issue. Remember, not all cross shaped screws are the same, it's easy to mix up Philips and pozidriv. Look it up. Electronics like this laptop usually only have phillips.

Definitely not, I even tried with a ultra low profile heat sink and that didn’t work either, I’d just recommended doing what I did, even with just that thin piece of aluminum I never saw the drive go above 65° in my usage.

Yeah no, I work with PS5’s on a daily basis replacing HDMI ports and it’s a hassle i’d just rather not fool with it. I’m sure compared to the stock Liquid Metal the temp difference would be pretty minimal and by time it actually becomes and issue this laptop will have already been replaced and with a new owner and they can decide if they want to do that or not lol

This is late but maybe you have an older g14 laptop since some of them only have gen3 compatibility. So even if you plug in a gen4, you still get gen3 speeds.

It will fix the WiFi issue although I didn’t use Bluetooth devices often so I assume it will fix that as well but I can’t say for sure

I replaced my wifi card with an intel wifi 6e ax210 160mhz adapter but with that card installed, I get very poor wifi range (after about 5 meters I get no connections, from 1 meter away from router I get 2 bars wifi, slow speeds) I have an rog flow x13

I tried to do this on my 2021 Zephyrus G14 but it said the oem hard drive is encrypted. Did you run into that?

I did not. It sounds like you may have bitlocker enabled if you didn’t encrypt your drive yourself then I’d follow this tutorial to see if you have bitlocker enabled and how to disable it www.howtogeek.com/805225/disable-bitlocker/

How safe is it to unplug the battery? I've heard horror stories of the entire motherboard shorting out when the battery is removed and I really don't want to take the risk. Is it safe to switch out the wifi card without removing the battery?

You can do it if you wait 5 minutes. Once the laptop has discharged it's not a big deal. But people probably are shorting it out because their doing the job on something dumb like a carpet and their not grounded.
