I have had to replace the Bake Element twice now on my Whirlpool range -- seems to burn through on me every 3-4 years -- but at least it's only a $30-$40 part, and it's very easy to replace as well, especially when following this video. Thank you!

Thank you so very much. I just did this myself with my son helping only to add a little muscle to unscrew the very tight screws holding in the access panel. I did all the rest and saved myself at least $150 dollars or more for the repair. Your instructions were absolutely perfect! N.B. the element cost is up to $60. Repair service wanted a minimum of $118 just to show up and look at it. And then they would have still had to order the part and come back. One tip the parts store gave was to make sure that the wires the element attaches too can't fall back inside between the inner oven and the oven's back panel or you would have to remove the entire back of the oven. I didn't have that issue. Those wire clips were quite secure, but I was grateful for the warning.

Thanks for the info! I was able to replace baking element quickly and saved money by not having to call a service technician! Element was $50.00 at an appliance store. Probably could have saved more by ordering online but I had to have it working ASAP

Lots of helpful points - Lift the element cover to unslot it easily from the front • Check terminals for corrosion, arc'ing • Use protective washers before inserting screws and do NOT overtighten the screws so as to preserve the porcelain surface from corrosion.

I have replaced two of these on our 2015 model oven. This model has square drive screws not phillips head. Also, it is much eaisier done if you remove the door. Open door fully, pinch and pull the locking tab on each side hinge, close door about3/4 way and lift it out. Reverse to reinstall.

I've never had an oven I've owned burn an element, but have in a toaster oven. If the bottom element isn't coming on, it could be the thermostat accessible from the back or the main board. Is there also a separate relay for the broiler, convection element, and the bottom bake element? I don't want to order the part only to find out it was a relay. Guess I am going to have to take it apart ad test first, which means two trips.

Hi there i have a gold series oven, my problem is that when the oven is set to warm the bottom element glows red and the oven heats up way past the warm temperature of °170 Celsius burning what was to warm. Any ideas!!!

Thank you for this video! The element in our Whirpool oven caught on fire, and with your guidance my husband has now replaced it with a new one. However, even with the new element installed, the oven will not heat. The broiler apparently will not work either. The stovetop works fine. Any advice on what we can try next to get our oven to work?

I am hoping that Steve or someone can tell me what gauge female Quick disconnect would I need for this replacement? The terminal was burnt and needs to be replaced. I was looking at T1114 Quick Disconnect, High Temperature, 90 Degree Flag, 12-10 Gauge, 1/4" Female. Would that be correct? I went to Home Depot and Lowes and neither had these female disconnectors.

Did it work? I've heard rumor that it's 14ga but you can use 12ga connectors for it...

Note to self: open up the back and check the connectors "before" ordering a new bake element, cuz if they're bad, the element might still be OK...I guess you can even check it with a multimeter if so desired...check for continuity IIRC :)

I was replacing the element and where the front screws in towards the door, has a Crack. Does the oven need to be replaced?

Not if the crack is just in the porcelain coating. There are some touch up kits for those sort of things

Recently had a lot of sparks coming from the bottom of the oven (visible thru the slots in the bottom), producing a good amount of smoke before I could turn off the oven. Does this sound like a fix for that type of issue?

Yep, your element may have been cracking or something, depending on where the sparks were coming from...

@@RogerPack replaces the element over the weekend. The element was completely broken and burnt in two places on the left side. About a 6 inch section was completely separate upon removal and the back connector had burnt so I had to replace one of the connectors. Seems to be running fine now, fingers crossed.

Without a doubt. Mine burns through about every 3-4 years. Easy to tell for sure if you just remove and inspect the old one.

couldn't you just unscrew the bake element and pull it out and then disconnect the wiring so you don't have to access the back of the oven?

Yep. Just checked my oven and you just unscrew the baking element mount and pull it out until you see the wiring connection and then disconnect. No need to access the back of the oven like he shows in the video.

I literally just moved my oven out to clean under it and on sides and then when I went to heat stuff up tonight it's constantly clocking with it set to 400F... It's hot but no idea how hot inside and food taking forever.... Assuming it's temp sensor throwing off the relay I hear. However broil works soooo I guess I'll test ohms of bake element first

There was really no reason to access the back of the oven. The replacement could have been easily done from the front of the oven. But, covering the element with a piece of metal? Seems like a really bad design!

I just did this. Not as easy as it looks. The element prongs did not go back in the holes and through the back that easy. I had to move the insulation out the way. Then the (2) red wires that plug back in the element prongs were to short to reach the new one without resistance. I had to push up on the element prongs and pull hard on the wires to make them meet and was afraid due to that resistance they would come unplugged but they did not thank God and it works. The wires need to be lengthened really to meet the prongs with out having to pull and push so hard to do it. O, and the 2 screws that hold the pan down that sets over the element, are junk. One come out fairly easy. The other I had to spray WD-40 on it and still stripped the head. I ended up getting it out with a square head bit but was fixing to drill it out.
