4 years later and you’re still helping people out. I bought a used Byron Static record player, once I got it open I found the previous owner had tried replacing the belt with one of those rubber wristbands that could barely go around the inner circle and nothing else. It was just laying in there. Thanks for the video

I wanted to add an update. I spent days and days attempting to get the belt in the right position on the platter. My Crosley needs to have the belt in the very center of the platter or it rides up and RPM is too fast. This happened to me three times. However Crosley platters have two spots with a raised piece of plastic which you can lift the belt over in the shape of a triangle. It stays in this position as you lower the platter such that the part with the triangle descends right over the part that spins. It will then release from the raised plastic piece and it will be positioned exactly where you want it to be. When I did this, my record player finally sounded the way it was meant to sound. It was also MUCH easier to actually get the belt to stay on. It looks like your platter has them too. This is the recommendation from Crosley

The belt falling off over and over means it is probably too loose and needs to be replaced. I'm curious once the belt works if you change it from 33 to 45rpm if the speed changes at all or stays the same?

Also, I can't see if it's on this model or not, but there are usually one or more pegs near the outer rim of the underside of the platter. After putting your belt around the inner rim, stretch it over one of those pegs, creating a triangle. Then you can put the platter back on, with the spindle inside that triangle formed by the stretched belt. Turn your platter counterclockwise and the belt will snap into place and you're good. No having to try to hold it with your fingers as you put it back on!

Hi! I came across this video because I was looking for a way to fix my record player which I bought from target about two months ago but I never really got around to setting it uo until I bought Adele 30 in vinyl. I did all the step you say in your video but my record was still jumping every time the record would turn it'd jump. so what I did was I noticed that it was the little three rubber holes that were getting stuck in the turner, so I took them out, it was easy just push them out and they should come out. and then boom, put everything else back on the way you say in your video and it works perfectly now! no jumps or weird skips or anything at all! so happy about it! thanks! idk if this would be helpful to anyone but just thought or typing this! :)

Awesome, thx so much! Mystery solved! I opened it up, and there it was: a broken belt. Rubber was so brittle in fact, that other pieces just started to break off when I stretched it. DIY hack if you wanna fix it NOW, and not wait for the belts to arrive: Long thin rubber headband (just did it and it works!), or sewing elastic band cord. You can often get both at a large supermarket -- or ask anyone if they have one of these, if you live with other people. I'm also guessing a regular long rubber band could work, too, if you can find one long enough in an office supplies store or section. To get off the little round clasp piece in the middle, I just used a tiny sized allen key to insert it in between and it popped right off. I just ordered new belts but while I'm waiting, just thought of this idea with a headband I had that looks like a thickened large rubber band. Tried it out, and yep, it works! it first had a bit too much tension cuz it was barely used, so the record was playing slower, so I just took it off and stretched it out more to loosen it as you would with any rubber band/balloon -- open and close repeatedly. Note: If you do the sewing elastic cord method, you'll need to cut off a length that's the same as your old belt, and then sew the 2 ends together -- I don't think that sew-no-more glue or even crazy glue would hold it, but worth a try if you can't sew. Or google how to sew 2 ends together by hand, since you'll only need like a few stitches. those tiny sewing kits from the dollar store/supermarket is fine for this. You just need a needle and thread. Also, they make various sizes of this elastic so if the strips are too wide, you can just cut them with regular scissors to make them thinner. ---- Anyway, thanks so much! watched another vid first but it didn't have that little clasp, so then found yours. Much better and more thorough anyway. :) Also, just won a bet with my bf that it could be fixed, and that's almost bigger thrill, throwing this 'win' in his face! lol. I'm the fixer upper and diy'er at home, and my bf's the type who's like 'it's broken, dead forever, nothing lasts. ok, gonna look up new ones' and I'm like 'wait, wait! lemme see if I can fix it first!'. :)

I need more help to replace my belt it's a pain in the ass I feel like smashing it against the ground sometimes

What I did was pull the slack over the gold piece and THEN slid the record down the post. Theres not a lot of room for your fingers if you set everything down and then try to loop it on the gold part. So hold the record above the post, loop the slack on the gold piece and then slide it down. Hope that helps.

Hi! Could you make a video on how to remove the platter off of a turntable that has a 45 adapter in the middle (the one you have to twist to pull it up and twist to put back down)? I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Magnavox MX1700 model turntables (which also have a radio and cassette player built in), but that's what I'm trying to get the platter off of 😅

On my first try I guess the belt slipped out of my hand and I didn't notice so when the table spun it made a weird sound. I did it again and now it's fixed so thanks for the help. The original problem was that it kept stopping in the middle of a song. I'm playing a record as I type so hopefully it'll keep going till the end.

I think there is something up with your tonearm. I wonder if it is set for a smaller album, like a 45, so the unit is stopping cause it thinks the smaller record is over. Does it stop near the same point every time??
@maethebae7133
@maethebae7133 4 жыл бұрын
Still Spinning yes it's always near the centre with about two songs to go. It's my first time owning a record player so I had no idea that you needed to check the size. Edit : I just checked, the record I was playing was 33 rpm and the tone arm was set to that.

I've got a Crosley Cruiser plus that I just got for Christmas. The unit turns on and I can run the Blu Tooth feature, however, the turn table will not spin to play records. I thought the belt might be off but it was holding on when I followed your instructions. It appears the motor will not engage. Do you know if this is a common problem with this brand? Do you know any way to fix it quickly, or, am I going to have to do a return on the unit?

So do you put the belt around the 2 plastic pins like the Victrola has almost all the way to edge? To use as a guide or something? Also, i have a generic multifunctional record player model M49A, with peg at about 2 o'clock and two inches from center spindle. Does it have to go around that? My platter was vibrating. So when i took it off the belt came off. Thanks

thanks this was so helpful! saved a trip to go return and get another one for a second time. that little metal clip is the worst tho, managed to take it off but can’t for the life of me get it back into place. however it still works fine… is it necessary to be put back on?
@StillSpinning3

It’s really there to keep the platter from coming off. For the most part, it’s not 100% necessary but if you move the unit around it might affect it.

I just watched your video, where can I get replacement belts. There are too many to pick from.
@StillSpinning3

I usually start with Amazon. Search your turntable make/model followed by “replacement belt” and you should find it. Make sure the belt has your model listed before buying.

Hi! Thanks for the video! I have a Digitnow M504 and I need to do a belt replacement like you did in the video because the speed is low...I know that yours is different of mine but I think that the platter of your turntable is the same of mine so I think that the size of the belt is the same. I'd like to ask for your help about the size of the belt and if you have any link so I can buy the belt...Thank you in advance!

Is there a way to control the pitch on these? The speed is about 2% too slow, even with a new belt. There is likely a small potentiometer somewhere on the board that can be adjusted for this; I just need to be told the component number on the board, or the location of the pot.
