First time I ever did brakes on a vehicle, thank you for the informative guide. Wouldn't have gotten it done without your assistance!

Hey Jim - thank you for showing how to replace the pads and rotors on my Honda Accord. I have a couple of comments - My pads included two wire spring clips that install to the tops of the pads and provide a little spring force to move the pads away from the rotor. Also just as a reminder - the brake reservoir cap should be opened when moving the caliper piston back into the caliper.

I'm about to attempt the front brakes on my 2010 Honda Insight. This is an Accord, but I'm sure there basically the same. That said, I appreciate this video. Thank you for taking the time to produce it.

Outstanding. I followed this step by step and man, you are spot on. I didn't miss a beat. Your calling out the socket measurements ect. You make it look easy, but it certainly is good to know what to look at, and for. And what to inspect. Thank you very much.

Very helpful video! But curious, why didn't you spray the rotor and pads with brake cleaner to remove the oils?
@spkendrick8 жыл бұрын
i have a 2012 accord.. need to change the front rotors...I''ve seen some people on you tube use some sort of fancy emergency brake adjustment tool when putting the front pads back on and compressing the caliper pistons back in. is this tool necessary.... ive never had to use that on any vehicle before. Great video !! very helpful !
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what that tool was .Don't believe everything on youtube.If you follow my video you will be fine.

There is a special tool you can use to compress the piston back into the cylinder on the caliper. What this guy did instead, was to "Pre compress" the piston back in before he took the caliper off. This was a really slick move! Watch how he does it at 00:20 with a screwdriver. This makes taking the caliper off much easier and then you can put it back on with new pads no problem. I'd have never thought of this. Slick move!

I'm having trouble taking the rotors of my accord, I believe it is because they are pretty rusted, any other tips on loosing the screws that hold the rotor? Thanks in advance

Question. If one of my rear rotors are not suitable for resurfacing is it a good idea to change both rear rotors or just the one that needs replacement? Would this effect the way the car brakes by changing 1 new rotor and having 3 original rotors? Thanks in advance
@jimthecarguy9 жыл бұрын
German Aguilar Good question,No you don't have to replace the other rotor.Just the one that is bad.It will not effect the stopping.Jim
@jmgraydz9 жыл бұрын
don't resurface these rotors, they are not worth it, and you will end up with vibrations, just toss them buy two new rotors each time

Thanks for doing this video. I'm about to do this job on a 2012 Accord and its really nice to see it done once before I attempt it myself. I've done plenty of brake jobs over the years on my vehicles, but this is my first time working on a Honda and its nice to know of any "gotchas" ahead of time. One thing that bugs me though...are you not really concerned with getting grease on the pad surfaces when you were putting them in the bracket? I noticed that you changed into fresh gloves for installing the rotor. I've always been very careful not to get anything greasy on the pad surfaces (and also the freshly-turned rotors). I'm beginning to wonder if I really didn't need to be too concerned about it.

Jim what is the type of wrench you are using to break free the caliper bolts. In the north I am always fighting the corrosion, and road salt.
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
+Jody Wyant Yea I know what you mean about rust.The ratchet I use is just a long Snap on ratchet.The longer the better it will give you more leverage to remove the bolts.

Well done Jim - do you ever use that silicone anti squeal lube on the outsides of the pad ?
@jimthecarguy10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and your questions.No I never use the silicone on the outside only on the points were the pad fits into the mounting bracket because I use very high quality brake pads.There for no silicone is needed .Thanks again Jim

Hi Jim, really appreciate you taking the time to do this video. Dumb question, what kind of lube did you use to lubricate the slide pins and clips?
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
+Maureen Tyczka What I use at the shop is synthetic brake grease on the clips,brake pins and on the new hardware kit.Remember there is no such thing as a dumb question what is dumb is not asking the question.If you need anything let me know

I didn't see a spring between the brake pads. one of mine had some and the other didn't! there is no hole in the pads for one on the front but the rear did have tiny holes. When I took the front apart the springs fell out and I don't know where they go!

How tight on the slider pin bolts? On my Jeep Wrangler it is really low - like 11 ft/lbs. Had I not used a torque wrench the first time my inexperience would have had me torquing them down until they stripped the threads. (Eleven isn’t much!) Is there a spec on these, or is it more difficult to screw them up than the ones on the Jeep? Also, different from my other vehicles, these rotors have retainer screws. Cool! My other cars and my jeeps have floating rotors, which are a pain to keep aligned while you try to slid the calipers over them. I like these retainer bolts. Do they tend to rust or is extraction usually as easy as in your video? You use an extractor/driver. (I need to get one of these guys.) it looked like these two retainer bolts are either an Allen or Torx fastener. Is that correct? Nice video, sir! Subbed and Liked.
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
+Holton 345 There are torque specs If you need them e mail me on Monday I will look in my work computer.If your trying to install the rotor screw a lug nut on to hold the rotor while your working on the brakes.The bolts that hold the rotors on are good but sometime without that extractor they can be difficult.Thanks for you feedback and for watching.Jim

Do you really need those screws that holds the rotors back in there?
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
Actually if you had to you can leave them out because of rust or broken you could but I would not recommend that I always put them back.

Thanks for the response. I had other brands and never those screws on the rotors. Even in my 960Volvo. I just wanted to make sure.

I hate those screws on the rotors. They're a pain and useless. Its only used on the assembly line when building the car. You don't need to use them again once off.

the only thing not included was removing the lid from the master cylinder and catching brake fluid around it, and finally bleeding the system if necessary. Handy walkthrough otherwise
