Thank you!! I just paid over 400 bucks at the dealership for this to be done. I will be doing it myself for now on!

You just save me a lot of money. Just called the dealership and the cost for them to put on new fuel filters is $410 without tax. Thanks a lot for sharing your video.

I appreciate it very much you taking your time and video taping this whole fuel filter change for us that like to work on our own vehicles. I am new to the diesel world but I like to learn and do it myself.

To reach my front fuel filter I use a 3/8 ratchet, two 8" extensions and a swivel. Works great and a lot easier on the back! Good vid thanks for the time and talent!!

Now doing one at a time makes GREAT sense. One thing I plan to do is get a glass jar and drain rear & front filters separate and let sit see if I see any water. Beings I get my diesel from only 2 sources. But man thanks for the advice. I will keep coming back for more helpful info.

+Jim Cash. Thank you Jim.Changing the filters one at a time will save you a possible problem .

Yep...the air in the line issue. Would you say front first or rear. ?
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
+Jim Cash. Most of the time i do the rear one first .As for the air in the lines.That happened once to me it was a real pain in the rear end .

I carry a one gallon clean glass pickle jar with a lid. Any station I go to I shoot about a quart or less into the jar first. Check it and then use a funnel to put it in my tank if clean. Pump about 5 gallons in or 10, check it again.

Thanks for the video, but FFS don't ever just turn the engine over after a fuel filter change like that. Cycle on/off 4-5 times.

This truck and engine combination only runs the fuel pump when the engine is turning so cycling the key does nothing for priming the fuel. You are better off adding a small amount of clean diesel to the fuel bowl while the new filter is installed to help prime the system.

I’m late to the party, but thanks for the video - I just watched it. I do have a question, what kind of oil/lubricant do you use to lubricate the o-rings?
@roberthancock70558 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of running the engine between filter changes. Make a lot of sense. One question; why would the service information (CD) I have says to remove both negative battery cables before doing the fuel filter replacements?

Jim does the 2011 3500 have a prefilter or just the one on the engine? and does the key of and on prime the 2011s. Good clear video thanks

Would partially filling the filter canisters with clean fuel make sense to help the truck self prime?
@frankdaniels43647 жыл бұрын
Service manual says not to fill it that it will cause damage. It says to cycle the key 4 times. May have to bump the starter each time to let the pump run for 25 seconds each time.
@leewalters35217 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, thanks for the video. I have the same model. However I could not open the front fuel filter cap until I had opened the yellow bleed vale. Do you know if this is common. No amount of effort would release the plastic nut until the yellow valve was untightened. This is slightly different than what's shown in the video. Thanks Lee
