This was my first time ever changing fuel filters on a diesel. Hope this shows how easy it is and helps someone out

if you are filling the filter housing up front with diesel, you run the risk of putting unfiltered fuel into the system past the filter, if you just close it up and cycle the key a couple times your lift pump will fill your filter housings and she will start no problem. just trying to help.

Guy L you are completely right. I’ve changed multiple filters on these trucks. The priming process is as follows: turn the key to run for 30 seconds, then turn off for 10 seconds. Repeat this process 5 or 6 times then try to start the engine. If it sputters, prime a few more times. When it starts check for leaks

My first change at dealer started an argument. They listed both filters as same part number ending in A for $300 per. I showed her there was an identical part number ending in B for $150 and a note that they were a set. But she disagreed, so I left without the work. Never to return

I found slipping a 5/8 rubber hose to the drain tub into a clean plastic milk carton saved on spill and easy to fill up the rear filter with fuild when install. And use a cut plastic milk carton to catch the rear filter in.

That "sensor" on the frame filter is a water in fuel sensor. Also. Like some of the other comments say, dont pre fill your fuel filters... you can add a fass type system if you wanna spend a little $$$ and delete the filter in the engine compartment with a fleece machined part.

There are some really good Diesel additives out there. My father was a Mercedes mechanic 45 years. He use liqui-moly hi test in all the Mercedes turbo diesel cars and he said it made a big difference in the long run. You might want to use one of these every filter change. I know liqui-moly also makes a DPF cleaning additive that you put in the fuel tank.

I usually start with the rear filter, then click the key on a few times, then start it. Then the Front filter the same.. Last time I did it I got about 5 gallons of fuel on my garage floor.. Forgot the rear gasket and Niagra Falls! Then I did the Same damn think on the Front Filter. Niagara Falls AGAIN!! While doing the Rear Filter I did not want to damage my HEAVY 18kt Gold Wedding ring with baguette Diamonds... So I put the wedding ring in the rear fuel filter box! Forgetting about the ring I dumped the box in my trash can. So saving money cost me hours of garage floor cleaning and a 6,000.00 ring.... I love saving money and doing things myself... So much Pride....

DO NOT PREFILL THE FILTERS!!!!!!!! Cycling the key will refill the filters. It's not worth replacing a $15,000 $20,000 fuel system because you wanted to save $3 of fuel. @Nash_Nismo
@Nash_Nismo 5 жыл бұрын
A human hair is actually much larger than that...closer to 70 microns...and that's just the diameter of the hair. Hard particles that are between 5-15 micron are really the ones that will cause premature wear on the fuel injection system, FYI.

You don’t add fuel to the filters. You let the truck prime them from the fuel in the tank.

Don't manually fill the filters, let the pump do it.

I paid less than 17.00 for the rear filter and about 5.00 for the front.

I just did mine. The instructions that came with my water separator said specifically DO NOT PREFILL YOUR FILTERS. ...And never ever use pre-contaminated fuel back into your filters or tanks. Think about the dust up in that tube) drain. I'm sorry but this video is not very helpful only shows where to locate parts in vehicle. There's a better one. Also there is a special wrench to buy for ease of removal if the sensor. 34900 .

I don't get why RAM couldn't put the two filters side by side somewhere in the engine bay and easy to get to. Really, I would rather just have one good filter right before the injectors. This setup the way they got it is super stupid. If your engine isn't 100% clean, your going to get a bunch of crap down in that canister filter as you try and wiggle your way around. You better off to wash out your engine before attempting this in that area.
