How to replace the halogen trunk lights on VW e-up with LED

I replaced the bulb that wasn't working with a new one but the light still doesn't work. Any other ideas how to fix it?

The H4 bulbs in the headlights can be replaced by Osram LEDriving HL H4 Gen2.

There is just a small problem with those (like with any LEDs): These products do not have ECE approval. This means they must not be used on public roads in any exterior application. Use on public roads leads to cancellation of operating license and loss of insurance coverage. Several countries do not allow sale and use of these products.

First offence they let you off with crucification. 🤣 In fact in germany its a calculable risk. This intervention only causes problems if a damage case happened in direct connection with these bulbs. If this is the case a potential recourse of foreign claims is limited to 5.000€ (§ 5 Abs. 3 KfzPflVV)

I did not knew that was the same! Now I ordered more! And brighter than those I purchased first time! But they are really Very cheap!

I am thinking to buy more powerful ones because even the LED are much better than the halogen it is still quite dark in the trunk

I wonder why VW didn’t put LEDs in the first place, they can’t be that more expensive (especially if bought in bulk). Maybe it’s temperature related (but what top temperature can the LEDs get at after less than a minute of being on?).

My best guess is that this was a gasoline car and during the transformation to electric car the CAN bus communications and all the electronics and were left to be halogen to save some money . Nowadays everyone use led and Volkswagen needs to chance the electronics within the car to accept led lights. I hope they have changed the 2020 model to have led lights inside.

If you change them everywhere it is around 250 W
