How To Replace the HID Headlight Bulbs on a Jaguar XK8

Thanks for your videos... Youve saved me thousands from the Jag Dealership. I'd love to see a video on how to replace the headlight lens.. My XKR caught a rock and shattered the lens. I've purchased a replacement headlight assembly, but cant figure our how to get the old one off, without having to remove the fender or the front end.. that seems a little extreme... Thanks again for the videos.

Thanks for that great vidéo. One question, I order the bulbs (d2s for my 1999 XKR) and it looks like it is only the bulbs (not with the grey modul you have in your hands). I called the sales compagne that told me the ds2 version allows to change just the bulbs without changing the grey modul. Are they (am I) right ? Thanks for your answer. BR

That's easy. You just remove the wheel well liner (3 minutes, watch my video on how to do it) and then you remove a nut on the underside of the headlamp assembly. You can get to the nut through that little access panel at the front of the wheel well, but trust me, it's much easier to remove the whole wheel well liner. After removing that bottom nut (or maybe it's a bolt, I don't remember) you then remove two nuts (or bolts) from above. Then the headlamp slides right out.

I am guessing you can use this procedure to do conversion from Halogens to LEDs?

It's a little more complicated than that. It's been a while since I converted halogens to LEDs, but the LEDs had an extra piece that had to be wired in (a ballast or something). I had to find room to fit it somewhere near the headlight, and also mount it securely. So yeah, this is the basic procedure to access the bulb, but you'll probably have to make some modifications. Although, maybe new LED conversion kits have integrated everything onto the bulb. That would definitely make it easier.

My headlights don't work on regular, but they do if I put on high beams, will this bulb solve that you think?

It's possible that both of your HID bulbs are burnt out. If so, then replacing them would fix the problem. The high beams are separate bulbs, so they would still work even if the low beam HIDs were out. However, there might be some other electrical problem. It's hard to say. But the easy thing to do would be to replace the low beam bulbs first. They are cheap on Amazon and eBay. If that doesn't fix it you have bigger problems. Also, check the fuse for the headlights. I don't remember which fuse it is, but I'm sure it's listed in the owner's manual. That's probably where you should start. If it's not the fuse or the bulbs, then go to jaguarforums.com and ask the people there. They are very helpful.

After owning a Jaguar V12 and getting an XKR - I'd hoped that this sort of "working at the end of the fingertips" was a thing of the past? I still think my XKR is by far the best car I've owned tho....

Hi Sam, I have a XK8 1999 Conv. with original bulbs. I want to switvh to HID. Are you sure the D1S bulb fits? Thanks a lot.

Ed Allyn I do not. I actually made a video of the process several years ago, but I cussed so much I never actually edited the video segments into a complete video to upload to KZbin. That was before I learned how easy it is to remove the wheel well liner. If you remove the liner there's one bolt on the bottom of the headlight assemble, and I believe there are two bolts on top. If you remove those three bolts and the wire connectors, the headlight will slide forward and out of the car.
