Back in the day before pressed bearings I thought you used to be able to just replace the bearings and races themselves without having to replace the whole assembly. At least the job isn't too difficult thanks for the vid Brian. Also I was surprised to see a mini van still using drum brakes in the rear this day and age.

Dude I hit that big lug nut from the hub assembly with my Dewalt 20v max impact drill n came out like butter... That impact drill is so freakin nice n takes out any nut that's giving trouble.What I did was take out the hub assembly and popped out the old bearing with my 10 ton hydraulic press I got from harbor freight. Put the new bearing back in the same hub n done. Good video👍

I agree on the drum brakes. I did another mini van hub today on an MPV that took some POWERFUL pressing. It took about 9 tonne to get it to crack!

Currently I have 500 videos on all kinds of helpful stuff. If I did it the other way, I'd have about 50 videos on only the most basic things. When you do it the way you describe it's ENORMOUSLY time consuming to stage and edit. That being the case I prefer to get information out there in mass because it helps the most people including me and then I can still spend time with my family too. ; ) Thanks for the input.

Those are to be pressed in and out. You can either remove the knuckle and press it in a shop press *(once the circlip is removed that's hiding behind the wheel stud flange) or you can buy an on-the-car bearing press.
@killman197112 жыл бұрын
Ditto to cracking the spindle nut on the ground. You can put on the spare donut or steel rim wheel and lower it back on the ground to make things easy. Note that if you spin and weld the inside bearing to the spindle that Autozone rents a $100 Posi-Lock hub puller that works well. KZbin a few BMW wheel hub videos to see how it works on these.

So, I'm assuming you just go to the autoparts store and buy the whole hub? Or, can you press off the bearing and swap over the speed sensor etc, and that way just replace the bearing?

Great comment though. I wish I didn't have to sleep and could make the videos as cut and polished as I like my work to be. I used to be an accomplished little artist back in my school days. I got to skip school to represent my school for my sculpture and drawings. My teacher who I had HUGE respect for told me "Perfection robs creation" which means in that instance don't be so worried about your work being so perfect that you never get anything done. I really have had to apply this to vids.

If doing the job without an impact wrench, I 'crack' the spindle nut loose with the vehicle on the ground as well. You don't want to pull the car off the jack or jack stand messing with tight fasteners. Same deal for the final tightening when putting it back together...

Hi Brian, I was just wondering where can you get rear wheel hub bearing assembly (bearing pressed already)for my Honda Pilot 2003... I've been looking all over Internet couldn't find any... Only available is bearing is not pressed yet on the hub.. It cost me $70 each to press bearing here in NY. Are there any available or they don't really comes with hub assembly with bearing pressed? Thanks in advance...

For clarification, this is definitely not the process for the 02-08? Honda Pilots. The wheel bearing is not attached to the hub. It is attached to the whole casing that holds the suspension together. If you do not have a way to press the new one in or two jacks, dont bother DIY. You basically have to strip it down to the axle. You'll have to get a slide hammer and take out the hub. Because That hub is pressed onto the inner side of the bearing You will pop out the inner race upon disassembly. You'll have to disassemble the brakes and the parking brakes, take off the whole plate and disconnect the ABS Sensor. It is probably best to have anti seize as it was a whore to get off. A few big tips. Before removing the bearing casing, remove the tire rod at the back end so you'll not be too far out of alignment... the tricky part is Once you can take apart the casing, youll need to manipulate the weight of the car on two Jacks, a main one and a bottle jack because that bearing casing holds the frame to the everything rear end and the car will twist some to where you cant put it back on. Preferably you want to get a die grinder to clean up the inner bearing casing. It took me a few hours to get this complete.
