Thanks for the video, this was huge for me! I just replaced my fiancée’s starter following this video. Thanks for helping us save the additional $300 that the shop quoted us, not to mention getting her car fixed tonight so she could drive home. In case it’s helpful for someone else, this is all I used: - 12 mm ratchet socket wrench (electrical component nut) - another smaller ratchet socket wrench, maybe 8 mm or so (other electrical component nut) - 3/4” normal wrench (for the lug nut things) I’m new to this stuff and I did it in a dark parking lot out in 4 degree weather in MN with a phone flashlight in about an hour and a half, so it’s definitely doable for novices!

I had my son buy me a set of gear wrenches set and sockets set at autozone. He arrived with tools and starter (I had at home. Because my car was displaying symptoms of starter problems),

Would be helpful if he told us what size tools he used

If you have to ask, you should probably take it to a shop. Comments like these are why people think twice about making videos to be helpful...

@@xxlpatriot3077 i had to figure it out on my own but i could have saved time knowing already, i dont need a shop i work on my cars at home.

@@jamesmcloving1935 yea i would know cuz i replace starter motors everyday right... its not like i commented under an oil change video asking what size tool when i already know since thats something thats done more than starter motors
@jamesmcloving19352 жыл бұрын
@@rc39_plays lmao if you work on starter liters every day then you wouldn’t need the measurements since you already have a good idea of what size it will be

torque values are 44 inch, 82 inch, and 46 ft/lb for the MR20.

I'm doing that on a 2009 spec v and let me tell you how lucky you are with all that free space..... just to find a way to get the socket on those bolts is a pain. Now both mounting bolts are removed but the starter isint getting anywhere. It feels like bolts are still there. Even when hammered it doesn't move at all..... 😑

Very informative but ovrr time the mounting bolt are so tight. A torque wrench it's definitely needed

Penetrating fluid... Vibrate the fluid into bolt holes... Small hammer tapping rapidly on the housing.. Not the bolt... If can let it sit over night or for as long as can.. Penetrating fluid... Pb blaster liquidwrench etc..
