just changed my filter today. you only have to remove one bolt from the bracket. the one closest to the front of car. just loosen the back bolt. and the bracket will just swivel out of the way

This filter is actually an inspection filter for the transmission mechanic to look at if the transmission goes bad. You can certainly change it but it's not necessary with regular services. These transmissions were notorious for going bad.

Hi, there was about 121K on the car when I replaced the filter.

This is highly recommend if your TL has the outer oil filter and if car starts slipping on any gear specially on Sports Mode. I did this while back and took the slipping problem away.

can you show what wrench you used? I stripped one of the first 2-bolts. I didn't go any further on the second round of 2-bolts. Whoever tightend it was so stucked. I got the bottom one, but the top bolt is not moving at all.

Tip to save you clean up tuck/slide a small rag or two under it before twisting it out all the way even if you drain all atf fluid it’ll still have some in filter it is used/primed just like an oil filter

you or someone should really open up one of these filters and see whats inside and how they are constructed, do they have a bypass valve? and see how well they are filtering the atf fluid

Excellent! Thanks for your very timely response. I assume this is a very similar procedure on 2004 accord v6. Also, I've been wanting to clean throttle body, this seems like an ideal time to do that. However, it's a drive by wire system and I hear horror stories about them. Should I manipulate the throttle plate by hand? Might doing that throw off calibration to other sensors and require an idle relearn? Thanks again friend.

If I remember correctly some 2000 models dont have this filter and only have an internal filter! you should visually check to see if you have it and than take it out and take it to the parts store or the dealer and they'll be able to get you one with the part # thats on it. GL

I don't think my 2000 TL has a external filter. there's a 13mm bolt to remove the cooling line where I refilled the transmission fluid. according to eric the car guy the filter is internal.

Yes.if it's automatic..also there's more solenoids in front of the transmission. Check those if your having shifting issues.

My TL was doing the same. I did change the outer oil filter and it did fix that problem. make sure you also clean the solenoids attached to the transmission and you will be good to go

Can you believe the '04 accord v6 has a trans filter inside the trans housing that can not be serviced! There's no way to get to it unless you remove the transmission and disassemble the entire thing. How disgusting! Honda is regressing. Guess that explains the many many transmission problems with their cars. We live in a disposable society.

Changed my filter and oh you dont have to take engine cover off I did it just taking off air filter and battery

Leave the battery in place so you would not have to deal with radio code headache. Just remove the circular spring by pushing it out of the way and then unscrew the circular clamp with a phillip and take the entire big air duct off after removing the air filter and its housing and you should have plenty of room to work with, and while you are at it you can clean the throttle valve with a clean cloth quickly...and you can see it immediately after taking off the big air duct.
