After installing new filter, hit the reset button under the options menu for some models. Otherwise, the red “replace filter” signal will keep beeping at you.

Tried putting in a new filter and the door will not close all the way since the filter seems to not quite go all the way in.. The model number on the new filters match the old one but the old filter a 1 at the top and the new one had a CF 1 at the top. Also I noticed the O rings in the new filter seem to be slightly bigger in diameter.

I'm having the same problem as Nayan Deshpande. I have very strong fingers yet the door will not swing up to allow access to the filter. I fear that exerting additional force will snap something. Can't find anything online that resolves this problem.

How safe is this filter? I measured the water TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) before installing the filter and after installing the filter (and flushing the water), and it was higher (worst) after the filter was installed! I thought this filter was supposed to make the water quality better, not worst. Has anyone else tested the water quality before and after the filter installation?

Type 1 After changing the filter, touch MAX COOL and MAX ICE together for 3 seconds to reset the water filter. The display will do a 3-second countdown, then flash the icon and play a tone. Type 2 After changing the filter, reset the filter status light by pressing and holding the "FILTER RESET" button. The status light will turn off when the system is reset. Type 3 After changing the water filter, reset the status. Press and hold the "WATER FILTER" button for 3 seconds. When the system is reset, the water filter icon will return to its BLUE color and the words “Replace Filter” will disappear from the display. Type 4 After changing the water filter, reset the status. Press the "OPTIONS" button, followed by "FILTER RESET", then "MEASURED FILL" to confirm. The status light will turn off when the system is reset.

The filter is stuck. It looks like the mechanism that pulls it out when you swing the lid open is not attached to the filter. How do we remove the filter since it's not popping out? I don't see a reply for the earlier comments stating this issue.

I was able to solve the issue by simply lifting the lid open all the way, pushing the visible end of the filter down, and then prying it out with a flathead screwdriver. I believe that my lid door was installed improperly as the mechanism that you are refering to should be *under* the ceiling of the filter compartment. I could fix it but now that I know how to remove the filter without it, I don't see the need.

I took the cover off then held the ejection arm down and opened the filter door and the filter popped out like it’s supposed to.

After I do all the above with a brand new #1 filter, the "replace filter" light and beeper still come on as if an old filter was still in it. I looked in the tube but couldn't find any visible obstruction where the prongs slide into the unit. Our Kitchenaid refrigerator is about four years old. If anyone has any thoughts on why this is happening, I would appreciate hearing from you --- thanks!

After the filter was changed and I ran several gallons of water through it, the change filter light is still on.

@Jan Mann. The filter light will stay on until it is manually reset. The reset process varies by model. There is typically a filter button on the display near the ice/water dispenser that you'll need to hold down for 3-5 seconds for the light to go off. Thanks for watching!

@Daniel Guardado It's possible the filter isn't pushed in all the way. The door should close all the way if the filter is installed properly. Be sure to double check that it's all the way in before attempting to use the water dispenser.

Yanked on it with a pair of channel locks and finally came out. Going to use oem filters in the future.

@carolchavez9383 It may not be seated properly in the spot. We'd suggest removing it and re-installing it to see if that helps. Also, it's always best to replace your filter with genuine Kitchenaid/Whirlpool parts. If you purchased an aftermarket filter, that could cause a problem as well.
