Thanks a lot for this Brian, I've just done the job on my UK, right hand drive ST170, the layout was identical. I didn't bother taking the crank pulley off, still got the old pump out and the new one in fine. It took me about 4 hours just working on a driveway with the car on axle stands. The hardest bit was getting the belt back on!

That's was the easiest way I've seen to do this!!! Very in formative!! And I learned something I didn't know! A new and much easier way to replace the water pump!

loosen the 3 bolts before removing the belt. the belt holds the pulley still.

UNLESS your pump got tight, causing the belt to come apart and take ITSELF off! : )

I am getting ready to do this on a Ford Focus ZTS 2004 2.3 LT, changing the water pump and serpentine belt !!

Thanks for the video! I don't want to critique but instead of taking off the timing pulley once you take off the motor mount and lowered the engine a tad the water pump pulley will fall right out. I think you only took off that pulley because maybe you didn't know you were going to have to take off the motor mount anyways, or at least that's what I'm thinking. Either way great video, thank you for taking the time to make it.

Just did this yesterday. Taking out the motor mount completley definitely made it much easier.

I did mine too but didn't need to takecoff the cranking pulley. I did mine before I had access to KZbin and my repair manual didn't say you had to lower the engine to make room for the pump to clearthe frame rail,lol! I had to figure that out on my own.

Great vid, doing this my first time and just wondering if it matters that I line up the notches on the pulley cranks to the 12 o'clock position. One guy in a video did that but this way is much more efficient. Only reason I ask is he said it will damage the car if you don't. Thank you

You definitely do not need to line it up at 12 o'clock. As long as it's the same Engine that's in this model. Possibly he may have had a different engine or different type of car. The only reason why you would need to line anything up is if you're doing a timing belt. If you could send me the link to the video you're watching I would be able to tell if it was the same job or not. Hope this helps thanks for watching!

This Lame guy and his cat. That video you are talking about the guy was referring to the timing chain and when you put the chain back on there is a notch on the pully that has to line up but only if your doing chain also water pump is easier

the water pump pulley on my car is stock, it doesn't want to come off and I don't want to pry it off maybe it would bent, what can I do?

I am still unable to remove the water pump does the battery need to be installed? Should there be any power running to the engine so that it unlatch whatever is holding this thing in?

TACOPOTENTE when it comes to removing things if you're looking around and you feel like it would help you if you remove it I recommend that you do that.

Should I pre drain the fluid first so it won't rush out when I take the pump off

Water pump has three screws they are off I’m getting some play however the old pump won’t just come out any suggestions?!

Back again. Yesterday i got my new waterpump and after many looks at your video today i started to do it myself, but, how did you loosen up you cranck pulley bolt? It doesnt move a bit. Use WD40, blocked it, use a long metal tube to get more force. bussy for the whole day on that stupid Pulley. It is 19.00h and starting to get desperate... :(

00.24 done. His in. Instead of dropping the motor a few inches, i lift him up and did everything from above. Tomorow i will put the coolfluid in and see if i did the job good. (i hope the motor wont drop outa the car. Anyway... l still like your video. I learned new things again. (i am a chocolatier, not a garagist :) So tumbs up. Greetz from Belgium

To install the water pump I’ll need to use silicone??

Blass No silicone. Just the O-ring that it comes with. If you add the silicone it will most likely leak.

I would just thinly coat the o-ring with silicone GREASE, not silicone SEALANT.

Is that a diesel car? Guess it is the same as a 2002 1.8 tdci 115hp. First time i gona do this. Very great video, really.
