Hey Pio, is it okay to put thermal paste on the memory u removed with thermal pads?

Yes it's okay, just make sure that u apply enough thermal paste that it touches the heatsink. You might need to replace it more often though, compared to using thermal pads.

Great video man. I have the same laptop from last 2 years. Recently like from a week my laptop gets overheated real quick and then throttles. Ater playing any game for around 1 hour the fps drops huge and CPU and GPU temp reaches 92°C. I really don't wanna mess up opening and replacing the thermal paste cause I've never done it before, so do you have any idea hoe much it costs in a service center ? And also if my problem will get solved after replacing the thermal paste ?
@PioSoesetio3084 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would recommend just opening it yourself, just follow the tutorial and you'll be good. If you decide to get it replaced in the service center, the service charge is around $20 in my area plus you'll need to buy the thermal paste. The service charge costs more than the thermal paste itself, not worth it imo.

Hi, it's ok to put the same thermal paste everywhere? Others said that we should use thermal pads... Any differences?
@PioSoesetio3083 жыл бұрын
It is recommended to use thermal pads. But thermal paste is also fine, just apply more thermal paste to make sure the VRMs are making contact with the heatsink. One downside to using thermal paste instead of thermal pads is that they need to be replaced more frequently.

Hey, I recently repasted my FX504GM ( i5 8300H, 1060 6GB) with thermal grizzly after referring your video, The performance jump is huge, seeing temps at low 80s or less with hours of gaming, but still, like you mentioned the CPU gets power limit throttled in both games (25W) and stress tests (45W after turbo window closes) and is not able to achieve that 3.9GHz on all cores all the time, I thought I almost found a fix with undervolting my GPU but then it was only apparent with some games and not very consistent. One weird thing I noticed while repasting was the no. of heat pipes in my system, I have 3 tubes (1 shared to CPU+GPU and 1 for each separately) while every video of this online has 2 and is getting slammed for bad cooling, ASUS made it exclusive to 1060 variants ig. anyway thanks for the instructive video!
@PioSoesetio3083 жыл бұрын
No probs. Yeah it's just the way ASUS designs the power management to the cpu and gpu. The cooling system wouldn't be able to cool the cpu and gpu simultaenously at the maximum rated tdp.

Since you haven't replied on my comment I'll ask everything here, no worries. So first thing, I'm confused what to use to clean the thermal paste? Second, I'm confused among these thermal pastes to choose from - Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, Gelid GC Extreme, Kingpin Cooling KPX, IC Diamond, Antec Nano and Antec Formula 7. Third, I'm confused whether to buy a 5 fan laptop cooling pad or not? Or a good Vaccum cooler?

Also should I use thermal pads on SSD and RAM sticks? Also, after doing all these stuffs will my laptop (which is troubling from the moment I bought it) start performing decent and cool?
@PioSoesetio3083 жыл бұрын
You can use alcohol to clean the old thermal paste. Either Kingpin KPX or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is good, I've heard about Gelid GC Extreme but I'm not too sure. Laptop cooling fans doesn't really do much as it only cools the outer surface of the laptop. Using a laptop stand or anything that gives room below the laptop for it to intake air will do the job.
@PioSoesetio3083 жыл бұрын
@@krishnanagar4893 There is no point in using a thermal pad unless you plan to put a heatsink on top of it, but there's probably not enough room to do so. So no point in doing that. It's the fans that causes ur laptop to heat up. And no, overboost doesn't cause fan damage. Maybe you dropped or laptop, something got inside the fan or something that caused it to break. Thank you!
@PioSoesetio308 Жыл бұрын
It's better to use the appropriate thermal pads, I just didn't have any thermal pads laying around and I don't think it's really necessary. If you are using thermal paste, just be sure that the paste touches the heatpipe. One downside to using thermal paste on the VRAM is that you might need to replace it more frequently compared to thermal pads. It is however more thermally conductive than thermal pads.

The performance of the laptop was limited because of it's temps before u replaced the thermal paste, hence why it ran slower. Hi, I've Same laptop with i5 & 1050ti. Its heating too much while gaming (>90 degrees), only getting avg 40 FPS in low settings in GTA V. After knowing about Throtlling, I checked that i was Previously in BIOS v317, TDP was locked in 25W, power throttling was there always, thermal Throtlling occurs in high GPU benchmark tests/gaming. Cinebench R20 Score was around 1100. After updating BIOS today to v318: TDP unlocked, power throttling gone, thermal Throtlling still there. Cinebench R20 Score 1200+. These are observations in XTU (Excluding Cinebench). But gaming still lags, and its overheating. So I uninstalled XTU completely and Undervolted the CPU, and iGPU to -141.6 mw by ThrottleStop, also adjusted GPU curve in Afterburner. Gaming slightly improved but not that much now getting avg 45 fps, but the temperature of both GPU and CPU gone nearly 90 degrees. Sometimes I feel everything is good in this lappy, power throttling is gone, only because of summer its overheating, I will apply this thermal paste and see the results. Untill then, Please review my settings, am I doing it right?
@PioSoesetio3084 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're doing it right. For me personally -141.6 mV is unstable, but hey, if it's stable on urs, good for you. I wouldn't personally undervolt the iGPU as it's not used that much because the laptop has dedicated GPU, but don't forget to undervolt both the CPU Core, and CPU Cache. I would also recommend upgrading the ram to dual channel 16 gb if you haven't already, helps a lot.

@@PioSoesetio308 Thanks for replying. Yes I have dual channel RAM 8x2. I just wish this laptop has a better thermal cooling system. However I will follow this video, will update afterwards. Untill then, Happy gaming.

Will it void my warranty if I repaste the thermal paste. Also what's the idling temp?
@PioSoesetio3084 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure not, just don't break it in the process. If you break the heatsink/fan/processor in the process, I don't think that'll be covered by the warranty as it is your own mistake. But if you repaste it properly and maybe a month later your keyboard broke, that's still covered by the warranty.

Or you can give me a sugestion? 🙏 (sorry my english is so bad, i from Indonesia ✌)

The VRM of the CPU doesn't touch the heatpipe, there's no point of putting thermal paste there.

@PioSoesetio3083 жыл бұрын
It is recommended to use thermal pads. But thermal paste is also fine, just apply more thermal paste to make sure the VRMs are making contact with the heatsink. One downside to using thermal paste instead of thermal pads is that they need to be replaced more frequently. Around 1mm if I'm not mistaken.
