This was a brilliant guide. Many thanks. For those asking about where tool 3 goes. It’s directly above the front middle engine mount. Just next to the cat. You’ll see two bolt heads, the the bottom bolt. It’s and nut and bolt, you hold the bolt on one side and ratchet the nut off on the other. The tool goes on the nut side and slots into place, it’s abit fiddly but does slot in.

This guide was so helpful I had to change valve stem oil seals and needed to remove all this and it so much clearer than how it is shown in the workshop manual I think they need to hire you to make their work shop manuals

Tool 3 locks the flywheel. Looking at the car from the top, find the FRONT engine mount (it will be to the right of the exhaust manifold and cat converter). Now, from underneath the car looking up, find the torx bolt and nut on the transmission bell housing. It is directly behind and slightly above the front engine mount. There are two bolts and nuts (one on top the other). The bottom one is the one you're after. Use a close ended torque wrench to hold the bolt head and a spanner to release the nut. Slide the bolt back a bit, then fit Tool 3 in the slot as far in as it will go with the open circle in place. Push the bolt through the circle bit of tool 3. The flywheel is now locked which in turn locks the crankshaft pulley.

This is absolutely brilliant. I've just sold my Honda Accord because it was such a nightmare to work on and get parts at a reasonable price! Bought an Astra SXI because I knew Vauxhalls were easy to work on and man...they weren't wrong. I'm definitely doing this in about a week or two. Thanks!

Many many thanks, decided to be brave and do this, and saved myself 200 quid in the process!! Haynes manual was naturally useless :)

Just checked and the Torque figures you used related to the Astra G (Z16XE), NOT the Astra H ( Z16XER or Z18XER ). Z16XE (engine used in older Astra G) = 20nm Tensioner 25nm Idler Z16XER (Engine used in Astra H) = 20nm + 120 degrees both Tensioner and Idle.

Great video. I'm doing my Cambelt this coming weekend and need to do the Crank Seal behind the Crank Pully, to get to the seal behind the cog does the cog come off easy or do I need a special tool for that. Thankyou

Every other source says Tensioner & Idler are 20nm + 120deg, where did you get just 20nm for the tensioner and 25nm for the idler pulleys? They're so crucial I find it hard to believe such low torque?! are these differences relating to different models of the Astra, such as H vs J ?

a16xer. There is in haynes manual 20nm +120°+15° for cambelt tensioner. On some other torque spec. found on internet only 20nm without angles. What is correct?

How the hell i look the flywheel to take out the pulley from crankshaft, because i lose half of the day to lock it and is a extra work take out the starter to lock it there

1:31 Crankshaft locking is the part I'm struggling to understand, everything else looks like a simple job. Just can't get my head around where to fit the locking tool for the crank.
@richolishis945 жыл бұрын
VXR_Nathan looks like a bolt on the back of the engine block to the right of the exhaust. You are removing a small bolt that is used as a plug, and inserting the longer bolt that rear against the crank keeping it from rotating.

So where is the crankshaft locking tool going?
@Danigold20015 жыл бұрын
dzialkowski you need to remove one of the bolts for front engine/gearbox mount...and locking tool goes there.

Hi F&D, Thank you so much for this video -I don't think it could be any more informative. I'm hoping to replace the dephaser pulleys on my 1.8VVT Astra soon so will do the c/belt at the same time. Do you have any tips specific to replacing the dephaser pulleys or the solenoids, (my car has the common fault of intermittently sounding like a diesel. Reading around, it sounds as though it's either a dephaser pulley or a malfunctioning/gunked up solenoid/filter)? Very Best Wishes, Thanks for your vid. S.

z18xer has only one downside. The VVTi system. It fails every 60-80k. And it costs about 800-1000 pounds to fix the issue.

£1000 for a Cambelt change ?
@MrRohanThomas6 жыл бұрын
that doesn't sound right should be like 200-400. I did cambelt/timingbelt, water pump and coolant flush for 280 pounds, 1 company asked 480 but didn't go there
