Thanks for the video! My muffler deleted itself last night, had to drive home with it dragging. Picked up the muffler and hardware at local O'Reillys for $140. Slid under the car with a sawzall, 14mm and a screwdriver. Had the job done in an hour. Thanks again:)

I've been a follower since one of your old subaru bozo does it videos, I still think this is one of the most enjoyable channels on youtube. You've got authenticity and a good personality. I'd have looked at those bolts and gone right to the grinder or the oxy acetylene torch though hahah! I definitely know your pain.

love the video, my 2010 yaris is up to around 180k miles with original muffler and has been adding horsepower the past 2 years. It finally failed inspection for emission, no codes but pretty sure the loud exhaust is causing the issue. Was considering doing this myself but just got 16" of snow and have no inside garage to work in so gonna do a rare thing and see what a shop quotes me before deciding. Also I have my heat shield in the back seat as it fell off the car a few years back and I picked it up off the road but never put it back on...

This helped a lot. Unfortunately the walker muffler oreilly shipped me had the flange not welded all the way around so I had to take it off because it was leaking. I’m going to get it welded the rest of the way.
@draydenrogers32144 жыл бұрын
where did you buy the new parts(bolts, springs, and gasket)? Mine has a similar problem, but im thinking it might just be the gasket that needs replaced.
@Theorica4 жыл бұрын
Quick shot of engine paint on the nuts with the spot welds might get you a few extra KM's before you begin adding more horsepower again.
@Bootstrappin4 жыл бұрын
A really good suggestion tbh, maybe some hi-temp enamel or even JB weld
@MattSeremet3 жыл бұрын
'07 n mine just wore out. Considering doing this myself but that separating the old muffler part seems it'd be frustrating without an angle grinder and impact as in my case.
@Bootstrappin3 жыл бұрын
The impact you probably don't need, but definitely need some kind of saw, maybe a sawzall.
@MattSeremet3 жыл бұрын
@@Bootstrappin Thanks for that. I just completed the muffler swap and it went very well thanks to this vid! I ended up using my reciprocating saw. A lil janky because it'd get caught sometimes but it worked out. My new muffler had some metal burs on the inside of the nut. Very fun to break those off after already fitting the thing into the rubber holders under the car. Anyway, BIG THANKS AGAIN!

Nickson 13835 is the gasket I’m looking for but do you know how I can find the OEM Toyota one?
@Bootstrappin3 жыл бұрын
@@exticrefresh0198 possibly 17451F2010 but the easiest way to do it is to go to parts.toyota.com/ put your car info, then navigate to exhaust. You'll then see a full diagram of the exhaust with labels.
@Asto5083 жыл бұрын
I can confirm. Don't even try to remove the old bolts in any other way, you will fail miserably. Just cut them in half and be happy.
@lilgiantsfan723 жыл бұрын
Stupid question, but why does an exhaust leak add HP?
@Bootstrappin3 жыл бұрын
I was being sarcastic. Though, depending on the engine, a more free flowing exhaust can in fact add power because the engine doesn't need to overcome as much resistance in pushing the exhaust out through the pipe.
@mikerusby7 ай бұрын
man, I am in 2 minds over whether to try it myself or just pay a bit more at the garage :/
@Bootstrappin7 ай бұрын
I feel you. If I was in your shoes, I'd get a quote from a local shop, and compare that to the roughly 2-6 hours this job might take to DIY + cost of parts, and potential extra tools needed. Chances are, the shop is probably going to be more cost effective. But if you're shooting for the feeling of accomplishment, then that's priceless.
