I got a 2006 Yaris II 1.0 petrol. Very good car. Retro look in 2021, kinda seems prettier than the newer models to my eyes. Got the full packet, silver color. Had to change battery, alternator and now it has some issue where it shakes when in 1st gear accelerating. But I think a 200-300$ repair will do the trick. It drives still good and is comfortable. For highways and hills get the 1.33l which I also owned but sold.

I am the second owner of a 1.5 ltr 5 door Yaris, about to clock 366,000 km and still runs like new. Cheap to run and has never let me down even after hitting 2 kangaroos, the dents just pop out. Great car

In my 7-8 years of ownership I’ve only had to replace the water pump at 160k because it was squeaking. Other than that it’s been super reliable.

The one negative on these cars is replacing the headlight bulbs, a lot of labor involved, so I suggest putting in the bulbs that will give you the most life.

All you need is to unscrew the front mask off and two screws on the headlight then u can change it easy, 30 min of work.

I have a 2015 Yaris MT. I LOVE it! 😊 I test drove a 2008 a few years ago and liked it even better. The clutch and shifter are SO good. People dog on Yarises all of the time. They do not know what they are missing. 😊

8:38 completely agree. I've had more fun ripping a small manual hatch than I have had in sub 5 second cars. I think the sweet spot is 7-8 seconds. You actually get to enjoy going through the revs to legal speed.

I've had an '08 for over a decade and at 150k miles I've had to change the water pump, shocks and struts and the battery cable only. It a tank! It's an ugly little troll that won't give me a reason to get rid of it. Great car.

I currently own 4 cars: a 2018 Subaru WRX, 2019 Porsche Cayman GTS, 2008 Subaru Forester XT, and an 07 Toyota Yaris Base. Over the years, I've dealt with plenty of issues with all of these cars (sometimes with 2-3 cars in the garage at once), and whenever I needed to rely on a car, the Yaris was my crutch. Currently at 169,000 miles (~270k km), and last I checked, still giving me 38 odd miles to the gallon. Nothing but routine oil, tire, battery and brake maintenance. Owned it since 2008 when I lived in the snowbelt, and it has survived -35 F blizzards and 120 F California summers. Driven across the country (Chicago to LA) twice, and from LA to Portland/Seattle three times. I've transported mattresses, TVs, a clothes dresser and a dishwasher in the hatch. The most reliable car I've ever owned and still could be sold for ~4-5k USD. Not that I would ever sell my beloved cherry.

If you ever have weird electrical problems, like your power steering going out for a moment but never get a battery or any warning light, its the alternator, and if you put in a new one from ebay and it makes a weird alternator noise, it’s the alternator, and when you buy another alternator from Remy and you still have the same problem its not a electrical problem, its the alternator that now the mechanic diagnoses and puts in a used test alternator and now it runs great. Buy Denso don’t cheap out.

2010 Yaris. The best car there can be! It's super low maintenance. Extremely reliable. I have 250,000 miles on my car and it's running great still. Of course needs maintenance stuff like all cars, but the engine is amazing.

Great channel, just discovered it. My son just bought a low mileage 57 plate one yesterday, with full Toyota service history, how good is it……brilliant, on another planet with his similar age Fiesta, the build is awesome, super tight feeling, almost like new, way better than any Polo I’ve driven, too. Toyota really know how to build a car, it even feels up to date with regard to the interior and the panel gaps are super tight. No bangs clocks or anything, super smooth in every department. The oddments space inside is amazing and the rear room is tardis like, with rear seat sliding and reclining, brilliant! This thing will go on forever, quite fancy one myself!

@anonymous4201 Yes, it was bought in 2021 and it was silly cheap, £1295. I am just about to sell it. Only costs have been new brake pipes, pads and tyres. New alternator was required and the model he got was the one that was a pain to access, so it was the only thing that was not well designed. There is a version that is really easy to change, but of course mine was a garage job. It is the 1.33 litre version. 2.5 years of reliable motoring and Motorway are gonna give me £1500, silly!

Bought it for an hour-long commute to work, to relieve my '96 Tacoma of that full-time duty (the Tacoma has 367K miles on it). I have Yaris mk1 built in 2002 it has 350.000km on the clock, I drive it every day as a delivery car. I deliver around 50 packages a day, It means i turn it on and off around 100 times per day, and I cover about 70-120km each day. It is all the time in the first and second gear, and it needs around 7liters per 100km of petrol for this I have it only for 15.000km at me, but for this time absolutley nothing went wrong with the car. I trust it so much, that I could go on a 2000 km trip without any insurance, just me and the Toyota. Trully amazing car!

I've had my '07 Yaris for 13 years now. Bought it used with 49k miles and now it has about 220k. I have not had a single problem with it - all I have done is maintenance stuff. By far, it is the best car I've ever owned. I kind of would like a newer one, but I'm going to keep this one till the wheels fall off.

Really is the sweet spot in city driving… I had a 2008 yaris sedan & it did come with cruise control, so I never had to look at the middle gages too much… I absolutely loved it… totaled it in crash… I wasn’t hurt except my left hand flew up & over to the left & I broke my edge hand bone & had a cast on for 3-4 weeks then signed waver to get them to take the horrible thing off & before that I had to modify the cast so my thumb could at least touch my forefinger to pick up a dang piece of paper or fold clothes etc…anyways… I got a2009 Toyota yaris hatchback & love it too… back seats folded down in my sedan too… the only thing I really don’t like is that I have to watch my speed all the time because no cruze-control which I don’t like looking to the middle to view it all the time… Both of them gave me zero trouble oh except the serpentine belt in the 2008 sedan, but that was because a misprint in the Toyota manual listed a size too big & I kept having my mechanic replace it for free though because of guaranteed parts… but on the fourth time they said they would have to charge me & that they had to go by the manual… so next time I was going to have to have the Toyota dealer replace it… but totaled it before that

What about looking to the middle at the rear view mirror? Should be doing that frequently. The middle position of the gauges and clocks isn’t an issue, it’s an interesting quirky thing in my opinion.

I have a 2009 left-hand drive 2-door North American version, with the 1.5L engine. Currently has 165,000 miles/266,000 km. It has been reasonably reliable and the gas mileage is great. I have had problems keeping the serpentine belt tight since we bought it. Recently had to have new brakes all around. Also had to have new front wheel bearings and axles at 164,000. Driver seat upholstery is starting to wear out. Changing headlight bulbs is a pain. Overall I really like it and plan to keep it as long as it will still be reliable.

It was my very first car after I got my license. It has1.33 petrol engine with 100 HP so it's really fun to drive. It's tiny outside but interior is huge compared to other cars in this class like VW Polo. Now my mom drives it and it is still going strong and reliable.

I recently bought the cheapest second hand 2006 1.3 manual nugget in repaint baby sick blue (8T1 for those curious) and I love it. Excellent for suburban driving and loud on the freeways. I also got an engine monitor which hooks up to the ECU and it told me an impressive figure of 5.8L/100k's! Mad manual nuggetry.

I had a 2008, 3 door hatchback. 5 speed, put 100,000 miles on it before I traded it. Kept it current with all the maintenance. VERY reliable vehicle and a blast to drive. Right now I have as a 2nd car my deceased moms 2009 Yaris Automatic. Just now hitting 50K miles. Still very nice and reliable. A completely underappreciated car as far as I am concerned.

These engines (1NZ-FE and 2NZ-FE) have been around since 1999 and were finallu finally replaced (in Australia anyway) in the current 4th Gen yaris. They are absolutely tried and tested. My mother's 2003 echo doesn't even have an oil leak and sounds just as strong as the first day I drove it back when it was my first car...in 2003. The hydraulic boot struts have gone tho. And the fuel Guage is a bit dicky. But other than that, such a reliable car!

As a delivery driver for the big pizza chain I have driven many, many, 2NZ-FE Yaris'. Very healthy and solid engine. I will say however, at least on the 3rd gen Auto's, the throttle response is horribly unilinear and unrefined. It feels as there are only a few throttle positions, rather than an infinitely modulating throttle. It's like, you can only drive it like a grandma or have it absolutely scream. The 4spd is unrefined and not a nice match for the weak 1.3. Not to say it's a bad car but I would avoid owning a 1.3+4spd model, it's unpleasant to drive in my opinion. I think given the era of the third gen cars, a more modern 6spd auto or CVT would be much more appropriate. I will however complement their handling, lot's of roll but they stick like glue around corners. I drive an 05 GD3 Jazz with 1.5 (L15A1_VTEC, yes real VTEC, but only 2 cam profiles rather than the typical 3), whilst numb, I find the powertrain to be much more pleasant and smooth. It's not only more powerful, smoother but also fuel efficient haha. Though, despite being perfectly fine, it at times sounds unhealthy, I really think Toyota make the healthiest and most pleasant sounding engines by far. Toyota V6's truly are the chefs kiss. I hope to drive a 4th gen some day, modern 1.5+CVT/hybrid would be much more refined and pleasant, probably doesn't need to redline for moderate acceleration up a slight incline haha. TNGA cars are solid.

Bought the 2011 Toyota Yaris 1.0L almost a year ago and I drive it everywhere. I can go 1 month without refuelling it (and still have some left), when using in city. When I take longer drives in highways it consumes more fuel but still comes a lot cheaper in comparison to other cars doing the same km.

I bought a new 2011 Yaris while I was teaching in Oman, and it was fantastic...small, but quick and economical. They were so popular that Omanies would came up to me wanting to buy it. I didn't like the speedometer in the center though. That was weird, and the fuel gadge was to the right of that making it easy to forget about and caused me to run out of gas once. All in all it was a great car for the money.

Overall is really really good. Gets you to A to B. Is not known for it speed or quietness. But it's a solid small car which looks small from the outside and is rather spacious from the inside. Dependable, reliable and good engine quality is exactly what you expect from a toyota.

I have a 2010 1.3 5 door same as the one in your video. The car is currently on 430000km and has never given any issues besides a clutch ,brakes and general maintenance. Being from South Africa the metallic Grey paint is fading. Overall best car I've ever owned. Slow as hell but super reliable. Parts are cheap and easily available and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good cheap car.Oh yes she has the notorious oil burning issue as with most toyotas, I use an additional 5 liters of oil per year besides the normal servicing. Great show guys .

@@ortizc1989 Hmmmm I'm not sure ... but my recommendation is replace it with a Denso (Toyota) one from possibly a junked yaris. The factory one they came with last a heck of alot longer than getting one from an auto parts store. I learned that after the rebuilt one from the auto parts store seized up after 60k miles. I pulled my 3rd alternator off a yaris in a scrap yard and it so far no problems in over 80k miles since then. I just pulled another one off another junked yaris this past weekend.

Update...my car at 316,000 miles finally stranded me. On a road trip my starter went out . But once it's fixed I should be back on the road in no time. But I have to admit this is the first time I've had to get it fixed on the road. I was very lucky where it happened so it could have been a lot worse. Although I started it by "popping the clutch" since it's a manual.

I own a 2012 Yaris SE my wife and I bought new in June 2012. This car was made in Japan and came over on a boat end of May 2012. Being an SE trim level there wasn’t very many of those coming over. Mine went to a dealership in South Carolina and I live in north Florida. My local dealer in south Ga worked a deal to get it for me. Anyway there is now 99,475 miles on it and it still looks and runs like new inside and out. I do all my own maintenance so I know it’s done and done right. It’s easy to park and drive. Not a complicated car at all and the dash has large dials and buttons and isn’t cluttered. I get around 38 mph combo city highway driving. Being a hatch back with 4 doors it’s very versatile and I have hauled all kinds of stuff in it. Keeping it until the proverbial wheels fall off. The engine from what I hear is pretty much bullet proof and lasts a very long time even with poor maintenance.

On the aesthetics something to add: The light grey interior/doorrubber around the door openings on these is very easily turning yellow to brown from smoking/tar/nicotine. Not a pleasant look, but an easy way to find out if it was a smoker's car when looking for a 2nd gen yaris.

My 07 is spectacular. Only issues ive had is broken driver side cv boot, seeping axle seal on driver side, and rear passenger ABS sensor that just happened this year. Oh yeah, and the lock on the hatchback seized up a long time ago. I tied a piece of paracord to the mechanism from the inside and strung it out the side. I open the back by pulling the paracord and stash it in the body panel gap. No one even knows its there. Cant see it. Manual transmission. 260000 km. Its a pretty bulletproof car.

I have a 2010 3 dr hatch, 1.5, AT that I bought used about 3 years back. Low, low, low (12K) miles. I put close to 25K miles a year on my vehicles. I was made an offer I couldn't refuse ($7250 out the door). I will never be able to pick up women in the thing, unless its an old lady who needs a ride home from her doctor. But the thing is bulletproof-level reliable, cheap to run and a snap to work on. I really like the car, I just wish it looked better.

I have a 2007 2 door hatch with a 1.5 and 5 speed manual. The clear coat on many of these machines was faulty and will chip and peel. I had to replace both rear wheel bearings. Mine does not have ABS so it wasn’t too pricey. ABS will cost you double on that job. The car has been extremely reliable and is cheap to maintain and gives excellent gas mileage while being fun to drive. I love it. Simplicity at low cost 👍

The Yaris is an outstanding car, probably one of the most reliable ever made. I regularly drive 600 miles / 800km through 5 countries from Germany to England. During the pandemic I was forced to buy a car in a hurry at a time when the pandemic prevented me earning any money. A break down in a foreign country is very bad, so reliability was the most important thing. My short list was either a Yaris or a Honda Jazz. It was a Yaris that became available first which i bought and have been very happy with it. In Europe we get the 97 bhp 1.33 vvti engine which is an absolute gem of an engine. I can be lazy and it will pull from very low revs, or I can thrash it and have some fun. We get the 6 speed box which is great on the Autobahn as at 70mph / 120 Kmh its only doing 2500 rpm so for a small car its remarkably quiet. It drives like a large car from the 1990s. I've now had it 4 years and the only thing that's broken in that time was a wheel stud because somebody must have over tightened it with a windy-gun. It only cost a few quid to change. Other than that all Ive done is regular servicing which I do myself as its dead easy. The only thing that i would mention is always rust proof them. The factory paint on the floorpan starts to break down and corrode after 10 years. Luckily I got mine at 9 years old and thoroughly rust proofed it while it was still good. I've loved the car so much i also bought a 1.33 IQ as well which is the fun version of the Yaris. The only disadvantage with the Yaris is I can't bear to part with it. I really wanted something slightly bigger and more luxurious such as a Corrolla or Prius but the Yaris just goes and goes. If I buy a new one my insurance will double and my servicing costs will be 10x as much so for now I keep driving the Yaris.

I own that exact same car, white version and cheaper radio system. The car is truly impressive. Really practical. I've even used it for a couple of moves and the way you can adapt the rear seats to your convenience is simply amazing. Surprisingly spacious for its size. And its behavior on highways at hi speed is impressive too. Quite stable and smooth at the same time.

UK gets the 1.33 VVTI engine with 6 speed manual which is an outstanding engine and 6 speed makes for relaxing cruising at at 70mph on motorways

I agree about the 1.5. 260,000km on the clock and still going well. It's manual and have taught all our three kids to drive in it. Changed the clutch recently and put second hand gearbox in because synchro was going on third gear. The car is based in Melbourne and has been on several Australian outback trips including Lightning Ridge, and more recently the dirt roads to Cameron Corner. It's had a crash with a deer and survived and also swallowed up a galah in the grille. Both the deer and galah survived the crash as did the Yaris. What a car!

Driving a 2006 Yaris since 2 years in Oman. This video is a perfect review. Was able to do 150 kmph but of course the roads are much safer here in Oman except when it rains. I shall surely change to a 1.8 Corolla or a SUV soon as the current car is underpowered to take on steep hills as well as too risky on dunes-prone highways.

Still driving the same 2006 yaris 1.3 manual that i've bought brand new. It has 120.000km on the odometer. Never let me down. Just once the starter motor brushes had to change. Except for that only routine maintenance were needed. Very happy with it. I would recommend everyone.

I have a 2008 Yaris hatchback and it is the best car I ever owned. Handles great. Accelerates well. Good on gasoline. Always a parking spot. Very reliable. Practical. I replaced tires, brakes, battery and I think a water pump. Otherwise nothing else. I put leather seat covers on the front seats to make them better. Put some chrome handles on the two doors and bought a mahogany colored dash kit to add some contrast to the rather plain dash. I also bought some molded floor mats customized for a Yaris to keep water off the carpet. I replaced the radio so now I have a back up camera too. I have remote start to warm it up in Winter without having to get inside it. I have 70,000 miles on it and I LOVE that car!

@@jayislanderyes I do! I’m in the States so I never saw the 1.3 or even the 1.8 liter engine. I have the 1.5 liter engine which seems to be the “sweet spot.” I wouldn’t want a smaller engine than the 1.5. You need the power and acceleration to merge onto the expressway.

My family purchased a 2007 Yaris sedan brand new, still running like a champ in 2023. No issues to speak of beyond minor cosmetic damage to bumper covers and a trunk (boot) door. It should have another 200k miles in it no problems.

I have a 1.3 VVTI. Automatic. 2012. 22 thousand miles on the clock. It is a bit of a gas guzzler. But I love it’s comfort and it flies. As for reliability I have only had it two months but it’s been serviced well.

I bought my brand new 1.5L manual tranny, 4dr Sedan in January 2009. 107,285 miles on the odometer. I drove it home & never had to take it back to the dealer because "everything" worked. Tires, Batteries, Windshield wipers, New Headlight housings & rear shocks is the extent of maintenance in addition to regular oil/filter changes. Still has the original clutch & front disc brake pads. Electric power steering, all the bells & whistles including tinted windows/windshield, cruise control, power windows, power side view mirrors, keyless entry, except the cold weather package. Still no holes/tears on the front or rear seats. The a/c is still putting out 42º cold air at the air outlet ports. Little to no rust underneath because I've done most of my driving in Arizona & Nevada.

I own a 2007 Toyota Yaris RS 1.5 litre, 5 door with a manual trans and it's a great little car. I've owned it for almost 4 years and I've only had to replace the water pump, all suspension, sway bar links, control arm bushings, CV boots and plan to have it repainted down the line, all this for a 17 year old car with the odometer recently rolling over 162222 km. It is a stellar car to drive and doesn't sound raspy like a Honda Civivc if you were to remove the muffler and get an axle back installed

After my 2nd Honda Civic was stolen in San Francisco, I got an amazing deal from a local electric car dealership on an 07 Yaris, manual I really did got lucky, after ditching the “Tokyo Drift mobile” which the lawlessness element had it’s eye on constantly, I’m now humping around in this granny cart undetected. Word though, be sure to replace the front pare of tires, they take on the brunt of breaking and traction and the infamous Streets of San Francisco really brought that out. My daily commute takes me over a circuitous route through the hilly bits to avoid zombies and traffic congestion (which the aforementioned zombies are likely to get at your car)

To elaborate: I have a 2006 Yaris RS (manual) purchased in December 2005. Love this car - great commuter. Over 230K kilometers which I hope to extend as long as possible. Sure the seats aren't the greatest for long hauls. Not like my old Subie on the East coast winter roads. Now living in a more temperate climate, purchased Nordman WR all weather tires to manage the mercurial Eastern Ontario winters - so far so good. 2 recommendations I have: annual rust check application is a must and what I learned recently - do not downshift to slow down. I'm old school. Have been driving manual for over 40 years. Thot I was being efficient until my original clutch started talking to me - chattering. Thot I would have to replace but my mechanic (great Japanese shop) told me to start using my brakes and all good for now. The exhaust system can be pricey to swap out. Make sure you're dealing with a reputable muffler shop. Once again, my regualr mechanic helped me navigate that potential shitstorm :-)

I first saw the Yaris in Iceland and fell right in love with it. In 2010 I bought a Yaris S and drove it for 90,000 miles until some jerk tried to occupy the same parking space I was already in. I actually loved having the cluster in the middle of dash since I didn't have the glare of the gauges hitting me on my morning commute. It reliably got me to my teaching job and home without any issues. In all of the time of ownership, I went through normal wear and tear items, and all that broke on me was my water pump at about 80,000 miles. I still feel sad when I see a Yaris like mine on the road. We actually have a 2015 Yaris hatchback right now with only 64,000 miles on it. I added cruise control (they are all wired for it) and plan on adding a radio with a backup camera soon.

The Yaris is a fantastic little vehicle. Mine has 180k miles on it and nothing has ever gone wrong. It's 13 years old now the only issue it's ever had is tires, breaks, and a battery. And actually the breaks have probably only been done once. I don't recall doing it in my 80k of ownership. The safety section should have gone into more detail. Those without side curtain airbags were the least safe cars on the road. The side curtain airbags actually seem to help a lot. As for the tech... It's not bad it's perfect. You can get them with Cruse control (or often install it yourself) and honestly, anything more is just more to break that can't be fixed.

2006 Toyota Yaris (Echo) 4-door, 1.5 automatic with 75,000 kms. It's had 3 batteries and one set of tyres. Running 195x55x15's on 15x6 Talon alloys. Best car we ever had and we're keeping it. Might add a GR Yaris to keep it company.

I fitted after market cruise control. Whenever I catch up to a slower vehicle on a multi lane highway and attempt to overtake them, they speed up. So, you drop in behind them and then they slow down again. I know this as my cruise control hasn't changed. This happens time and time again. This is the first thing I noticed when I switched from my Mazda 626 to a 1998 Daihatsu Sirion - also a small car like the Yaris.

​@@synapticburn It came from Command Auto Group, an AP900 with a CM21 steering hub switch. You can google them. It was supplied and installed by a local auto trimmer "Pimp My Ride". The Sydney factory tech was very helpful with a check engine issue. In the end PMR changed the plugs on the accelerator pedal so that the unit could be fully isolated for diagnosis and plugged straight through.

I found a pristine pink yaris yrs with only 39k in this day and age and I adore it! As a first car I have to say the middle instruments is a godsend for guessing the middle of the lane and also the digital speedometer is reallllllly nice for having exact speed. Small and easy to park, would like some things like parking sensors or reversing cameras or dash cam but those are all installable I suppose. Cruise control would be really nice... Bluetooth is great, hook up the phone and I'm good. GPS, Spotify, phone calls, sorted! I hope it stays the tank it is!

I test drove a brand new Toyota Yaris at the dealership in 2019. I hated it. That car was so gutless. I ended up buying a 2008 Honda FIT instead and am so glad I did, because it has a lot of pep to it and is so fun to drive and still gets 36 mpg running it like a maniac! ;p 206,000 miles on the FIT and everything still works on it.

I loved my little automatic 2007 Yaris but when it got to 200000kms it developed a mystery problem which would cause it to stall when idling and would be irresponsible to acceleration. Took it too like 3 mechanics and no one could diagnose exactly what was causing the problem! Ended up trading it in.

I Recently Drove a Friend's 2007 Toyota Yaris sedan and I was actually blown away by it , it has a lot more room than I thought it would, it's not as slow as i thought it would be either, it's as comfortable as my 2011 Chevy Impala only with a million times better gas mileage, I took it on the highway and had no trouble keeping up with traffic at 70mph and the thing about it is my Friends Yaris has 567,000+ miles on it with basic maintenance and it's still going strong, I've thought about selling my Impala and buying the little Yaris it would be a win win situation, can't find many cars that make 29 mpg city and Almost 40mpg highway. Super cool little cars that's for sure

These are usually competing with all the imported Honda Fit's in NZ. Having driven a bunch of cars in the segment I don't see why you wouldn't just get Fit or Jazz Instead. They're better in pretty much every way. Servicing costs are the only point against the Fit.

FIT is no longer sold in the USA. Sadly. I had a great 2013 FIT that recently got totalled by a reckless, negligent driver. Can't find anything even NEAR comparable to replace it. It was 11 yrs old, only 36,000 miles and the body and interior were like new. I'm devastated.

Expect the car driven could do with change of air filter, clean mass airflow sensor and throttle body, re-gap or replace spark plugs. After that fuel efficiency would likely dramatically improve.

Thanks for this look at a 'newer' Yaris. I've got a 2000 Echo, the name used for the first few years of Yaris sales in the U.S. A driver since the mid-1960s, it's the most fun-to-drive car I've ever owned. The light weight makes it quite peppy with the 1.5 L engine and being gentle on the acceleration, I get 42 mpg around town. I also like its simplicity (i.e. crank windows) in comparison to more recent models. I wish it were a tiny bit bigger, but with a cargo rack on top and a trailer hitch, I can haul almost anything.
