Awesome. After watching this video I changed the upper control arm and ball joint and the lower ball joint. In the process I also changed the outer tie rod and the sway bar. Great how-to video!

On the upper joint. Leave the bushing bolts finger tight. Tighten all your nuts on the ball joints, lower it to the ground then tighten the bushing nuts. This allows the suspension to be in its normal position.

Hi there this vid helped immensely thank you! Just wanted to add that for 4wd models there's an axle nut you gotta pull and then get the axle loose (carefully tapping it out can help). Also on some models there's an ABS sensor, but you DON'T disconnect the sensor from the spindle/knuckle as it can get damaged in the process of pulling it out. Disconnect the electrical connector in the engine bay (carefully pulling a little red tab out then disconnecting like a typical connector) and feed the wiring through to the wheel well and then you're home free! Thanks again.

So, on my upper ball joint nut, its very rusted. I got it nearly off,but the entire bolt spins now and the 10mm head on it is stripped. Any solution to stop the bolt from spinning inside the balljoint,or doni have to keep fighting this thing with 2 wrenches? I may have to cut the damn bolt,or try to bang a 3/8 socket on it and keep trying with my 21mm against it...

What in the world is the trick to getting the nut on the drivers side rear upper control arm pivot? I have the bolt in properly, but I can’t reach in to start the nut and can’t get a socket on an extension to set square to the end of the bolt?

Any tips on getting that lower ball joint out? Mine is NOT coming out of the knuckle as easily as I had hoped. I’ve been knocking mine with a hammer ( I don’t think I see any clips or o rings). Is there a better way to get it out?
@richardd.7479

You probably already fixed it but I had same issue. Drivers side took me over an hour, passenger 15 minutes. I had to use a ball joint press to get the drivers side out. Very sketchy set up the way I did it. Passenger side is used a 3/4 ball joint spectator that barely fit the edge of the arm. I have a 7/8 inch on order, it would have made it way easier.

@@richardd.7479 yea I ended up pressing it. I also did it with a very sketchy set up. I actually broke a vice with the amount of torque I was putting on it. Hard to believe that was almost a year ago!

I replaced both upper, lower ball joints, inner, and outter tie rods and new hub bearings on my 03 liberty four wheel drive. Now I'm getting a popping sound from front suspension. Is it possible I just don't have everything tight enough? Let me know what are some suggestions

When does it make sound? Is it when going over bumps/potholes or turning?
@chrisw8600
@chrisw8600 5 жыл бұрын
It's over large bumps at lower speeds ( backing/pulling out of drive way) and when turning mostly left turns.

@TaijiArban
@TaijiArban 5 жыл бұрын
@@chrisw8600 hmm... Could be anything. It's not uncommon for new parts to sometimes be defective. I would take it to an alignment/suspension shop and have them diagnose what it could be. I took mine to be aligned cause the steering wheel would shake and the guy told me that the ball joints were worn out and even showed me by moving the tires up and down. I just replaced the lower ball joints and it's been as smooth as a new car. Oh I didn't have the shop replace it since the labor price was kinda high.

@@TaijiArban I took it to the mechanic and it was $310 in parts (replaced both sides of the ball joints), then $300 for labor for each side, so $600 in labor. Total cost $910. I don't have to worry about it anymore but such is the price to pay.

Why can't I find a video of a 4x4? I want to know if I can replace the bushings on lower control arm without removing it and the hub. I haven't gotten the parts yet so trying to find an easier way if possible
@dunebasher1971
@dunebasher1971 5 жыл бұрын
I did this on my 4x4 Liberty. There's no need to remove the hub or knuckle, but you do need to remove the LCA completely. It's only 4 bolts and the nut for the lower ball joint, you can get the arm off in a couple of minutes. It's an easy job if you have the proper tools for pressing the bushings - I picked up the special Mopar tools on eBay, but you don't absolutely need them. The only part that gave any trouble was getting the holes for the clevis bushing bolt to line up again during reassembly. Don't forget to mark the positions of the cam bolts before you remove them.

@@dunebasher1971 thanks. I'm waiting for a nice day to do it but I did pick up a ball joint press kit. It's no Mopar tho it's just a cheap set but I think it will work. I appreciate the help the less I have to do the better.
