Appreciate the help. Haven't replaced an end in decades & was rusty.

Thank you! I had a prong break off my cord today. As with another commenter, I couldn't identify the correct one on Amazon, so I went to a nearby hardware store where I found the exact plug. 20 minutes after getting home my vacuum was up and running.

My favorite heated blanket just had a prong to break off 😢 Can I use any of the Leviton replacement plugs or does voltage matter? Thanks so much for this video.

Thank you. So grateful for this video. I thought I was going to have to buy a new vacuum. One of the metal piece broke off the plug. I watched the video and It's as easy as it looks in the video. Much appreciated

Thank you very much for the video! I just did it. Never thought I'd be able to. Took me a bit longer than five minutes, more like 20, which is quite an accomplishment for a guy who can barely change a light bulb!

Big thanks! My wife wanted to throw out our 10 year old dyson. After seeing this video I opted to fix the plug instead and now it works like new. This was a big help to prevent a perfectly good vacuum from going to the landfill. Cheers

Hi thank you for your video. I have a question. I went to amazon thinking I'd find one leviton double prong plug but there are a ton of different ones. How do I know which one I need...the technical info is all over the place. I have a rainbow e series vac. I just figured 125 watt plug but oh my gosh. I'm a sr. Lady so I'm trying to do this simple fix and not pay $125 and have to wait 2 weeks! Thank you for your help.

Yes. You can get a grounded plug in that case.

Dont see which wire is neutral vs hot as my wire sheathing is all the same color. How do you figure out which wire is hot?
@ldqa27377 күн бұрын
Strip back the sheathing to see the wire color. One will be black.

Hi, thank you for you help. I do have a quick question. When doing this on a large shop vacuum, what tye and amp is recommend?
@richardsvacuumcenter9 ай бұрын
Check the sticker on the shop vac itself. If it’s over 20 amp draw you will need a higher amp rated plug

15am will be fine. Get polarized.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I found a Leviton plug that looks the same--it is labeled "Leviton Residential Thermoplastic Straight Blade Plug 1-15P 20-16 AWG 2 Pole 2 Wire." Does that sound like the right replacement plug for a polarized nema 1-15? Thanks!
@richardsvacuumcenter6 ай бұрын
Should work fine!

Thanks! I picked up a Miele that was being discarded because of the plug--someone had pulled it out by the wire instead of gripping the plug - - so I'm hoping this will solve the problem and I'll have a free vacuum 😊

So I followed the instructions (I've replaced many plugs on lamps before) and my vacuum worked great--for about 3 minutes--and then it just stopped working. I'm wondering if something shorted out?

what if my plug has same gold color button but i have black n white wire,what to do?
@richardsvacuumcenter6 ай бұрын
Not sure I understand what you’re asking. Gold screw is hot wire (black), silver screw is neutral (white).

My vacuum plug broke. Plug has 2A. I placed a Leviton 15A replacement and this caused several breakers to flip. Is plug pulling too many amps and reason for flip?
@richardsvacuumcenter6 ай бұрын
The plug itself doesn’t draw amperage the vacuum does (typically vacs draw 10-12 amps). I’m not an electrician so I could be wrong about this but if your breaker is tripping you may be over the amp limit or perhaps you have a GFI and it’s tripping. I would verify that your wires are not touching each other inside the plug. Outside of that I’m not exactly sure what is causing your issue.

I did exactly and still my vacuum doesn’t turn on , can someone tell me what else I can do?
@richardsvacuumcenter2 ай бұрын
You’ll have to test each component individually. Check continuity on cord first, then switch, then motor.
