@@mikes.garage I thought that at first but I noticed I was losing coolant somewhere and noticed the distinct smell coming in through the vents and when I popped the hood there was some smoke around the top of the engine. I'm gonna investigate more but I know the valley pan gasket is an issue on the M62TU engine

These clips. Some people say remove them some people say you don't. If you don't why are they there? Do I need to replace the injector o rings or clean them? Thank you.

They are there for holding wires in place, but if you pull them they come out without any problems. I don't know if you need to clean your injectors, my was fine, and you don't need to replace o-rings if you not remove them.

Yes, this is same clips on wire harness box going into injectors. You don't need to remove them, only make sure you pull it straight up. Also you can remove clips before pull up the box but it takes a lots of time and stress for you as they very tiny)

I'm very glad I saw this, about to do my dad's 03 4.4 x5, didn't know if I need a water pump gasket or accumulator gaskets...I am doing the o rings though...actually if you take the plastic cowling off that the cabin air filter is in you may havee access, not sure which way is less work.

I was able to yank the Drivers side loose but the cant seem to pop off the passenger side. You gripped and it came right off. mine is stuck in place. Any ideas?

If you replaced it before, then no. If you replaced it 50000 km ago then better to replace. The main things you need to make sure the gaskets are still flexible and not cracking if you bent it.

Yes, you can remove water pump instead. I just replaced my water pump month before and don't won't to remove it again.

I've a couple of questions.. 1- I've seen few videos around and they cut a tube and replace it with a collapsible one...is this for newer models? I have the M62TU44 from a 2002 X5 4.4i but mine looks more like your engine. 2-What are the black rubbers on the box at the end of the video? I know the red gaskets are for the manifold, and then there are gaskets and orings for the cooling manifold and pipes, and then the complete valley pan w the gasket but what is the last rubber from the cardboard box? Yes, this is the same engine like you have. Other videos with cutting the pipe out this is fore next generations of engine's. @@taylorsons4303 on this engine you don't need to change this pipe, as you change the o-rings. I guess you talking about N62 engine. N62 engine is completely different then M62.

I guess this is driver side by the cabin. You should have a error code and I need it to make sure this is the correct sensor.

You should able to see at the back of your engine with a flash light. Look under intake manifold. This is how I found it. Also is leaking antifreeze at the back, this is more likely valley pan gasket. If leaking at the front, this is probably water pump.

Great video! Thanks! I'm about to replace the valve stem seals on my 2007 X5 48i N62TU, and was thinking I should replace the valley pan while I've got things torn apart. Is the valley pan process for the N62TU much different than for the M62TU? Any idea what the parts list would look like for me?

Thank you! N62TU is completely different engine! I don't think you will have a problem with valley pan cover on this engine. They usually have tube seal leaking under the valley pan and to replace it not that easy. You need to find the video with your engine and decide if you want to do anything for now.

VERY GOOD .... hello maigo I'm from Brazil and I'm with a bmw x5 4.4i year 2001 with the following problem: it does not turn on. the engine is locked if I remove the candles, throw some oil, or WD into the candle hole and move the pulley to one side. to the other .. ends up loosing and so I can and I can call .. more the other day she hangs up again. Great video. Have you ever used those 1/4" drive battery powered impact tools? I can't live without mine. Watching those 20 valley pan bolts was painful, even in time lapse.

Thank you! Yes, I have the same 1/4 battery powered impact gun, but I use it usually at work. I just try to show people how to do the work with minimum tools. Not everyone can afford a lots of tools.

Hey Mike thank you for such a detailed DIY it's great. I have a question for you through. I will be doing this on my 03 6speed msport 540i along with a complete cooling system refresh. I will be using the colder 88° thermostat like you have. I know you have to use a resistor connected the thermostat plug to trick the DME into thinking there's a plug connected to the thermostat on the newer 540i models like ours. I'm having a hard time finding what type and what Ohm's to use for the resistor. What did you use? It looks like you used BMW part # 13901734469, did you? If you did does it work and if you didn't use that part what did you use? I would really appreciate the help.

Thank you for watching! Yes, I used original BMW resistor with the same part number what you have. It works and never had any problems with it. This resistor does not allow engine errors to pop up on your dash. Good luck to your project!

No, I have not experience this with valley pan. But this could be possible. Sometimes I had installed some new parts and after all done and I'm testing it, they are leaking even worse then a old part. Very rare event but happens.

Thanks for the two videos. Very informative. I plan on tackling this onmy 540i in the next few weeks. Part way though the video you mentioned removed the rear manifold rather than the water pump. If I remove the water pump can I then remove the two pipes and valley pan as in the rest of your video? Is there a benefit of removing the rear manifold rather than the water pump?

Thank you for watching. Yes, you can remove water pump instead of rear manifold. I did this way, as I replaced water pump before and don't want to remove it again. This way I almost replaced all the gaskets on the engine.
